Niger Delta Coastal States’ Monarchs Finally List Conditions For Peace by LATESTNGNEWS: 7:36pm On Aug 26, 2016
Traditional rulers and stakeholders from the Niger Delta region yesterday listed six things the federal government should do in order to stop further destruction of the country’s oil assets by militants and restore peace in the region.
King Jaja of Opobo, Douglas Jaja, was among prominent rulers in the region who met with the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, in Abuja yesterday to present their demands.Niger Delta Coastal States’ monarchs and stakeholders in the region called on the federal government to urgently constitute a dialogue team to negotiate on its behalf with stakeholders in the region.

In their submission presented by Chief Wellington Okirika, the Bolowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, the monarchs asked for the release of 10 school children they said were arrested by the Nigerian Army on May 28, 2016 in Oporoza and others in detention.
They also asked the government to: “Return the Golden Sword, being the symbol of authority in the Gbaramatu traditional institution, return the three traditional council speed boats in custody of the Nigerian Army, and cease military hostilities in the Niger Delta region.
“Equally important, the federal government should make a categorical statement about the opening of the Maritime University, Okerenkoko Delta State for academic activities in the 2016/2017 session,” they added.
Kachikwu, in his response, said what was more important was that the ceasefire must hold.
“I was told, and I have not verified it, that in fact, on Monday, a day after the announcement, we had an attack on Nembe Creek, and we lost another 150,000 barrels and some gas from the Agip facility. So there are still some splinter elements who despite the ceasefire, continue to attack the efficacy of that ceasefire,” he said.
Kachikwu disclosed that over $40 billion had been put into the Niger Delta region but there was no infrastructure to relay such investment.
The minister lamented that the government could no longer fund the 2016 budget due to the crisis in the region which had led to a significant drop of Nigeria’s crude oil output to about 1.3million barrels per day, in addition to the falling crude oil price.

SURPRISE AS NIGER DELTA MONARCHS CALL CRIMINALS INNOCENT SCHOOL CHILDREN

I wishes to draw the attention of all good and patriotic citizens of our dear country to the headline of a story in one of our national dailies titled “Niger Delta monarchs seek release of 10 pupils”. This is a great disservice to Nigeria by the monarchs concerned.
First of all, I must commend the Honourable Minister of Petroleum Resources, Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, for his frankness when he hosted the Niger Delta monarchs who visited him in his Abuja office.

The Honourable Minister was forthright when he told the monarchs and the stakeholders point blankly that there was nothing on ground in Niger Delta to justify the $40 billion dollars released to the Niger Delta in the last 10 years, tasking the people to first solve governance and transparency issue in terms of spending money before the release of further fund.

The above notwithstanding, my main concern in this write-up is about the way and manner the monarchs were demanding for the release of the so-called 10 “innocent” school children arrested by the Army on May 28 in Oporoza. This demand is gross embarrassing and unbecoming of the highly placed monarchs who were supposed to be reverence for peace, discipline and high level patriotism. It is shameful that the monarchs are now dubbing criminals and economic saboteurs “innocent school children”.

Nigerians are not dull as not to remember the circumstances surrounding the arrest and concrete evidence against the “10 innocent school boys” by the troops of Operation DELTA SAFE. The monarchs may be required to tell Nigerians what the innocent “school boys were doing around 2:00am in the creek with dangerous weapons that included dynamites on the day they were arrested.

It seems the whole scenario in the Niger Delta is getting clearer. Notable traditional rulers seemed to be sponsors and brain behind the Niger Delta Avengers and similar militant groups. No wonder over $40 billion dollars went down the drain in the last 10 years and the monarch, rather than condemning the illegal diversion of money meant for development in the region for private use, are there protecting the criminals.

No wonder then none of them could reply the Hon Minister of Petroleum Resources when he asked about the where about of all the money released to the Niger Delta in the past. Seems the monarchs’ visit to Abuja is another orchestration geared towards smarting for another bomber “harvest” from the Federal Government, which this time around is not going to be the business as usual especially now that the criminals in the name of avengers are blowing pipelines for over 1,447 times in this period, lowering oil prices in the market.

Our candid advice is for the monarchs in the region to call their sons and daughters in the business of crimes to order and stop this double standard approach to Nigerian problems. Era of sharing money meant for developmental projects in the region to palaces is gone. Dubbing these criminal “innocent school children” is criminal, misleading and falseful. A spade should be called a spade. The arrested men are criminals and economy saboteurs.
The so called monarch should stop insulting sensibility of the Nigerian people.

When Cynthia white said Tompolo was behind avengers, he was too quick to denounced it.
The sword the monarch listed as one of the condition for for a shrine said to b owned by Tompolo in gbamaturu.
It's quite unfortunate that we are quick to blame govt, we are not being fair to ourselves equally.

Anyway, wether FG yield to ur conditions or not. Operation crocodile smile is there to meet your needs

They're issuing condition to government as if they control the security of the country.

Tell the military that... they are already at your backyard clearing the creeks of miscreants and criminals.

Same should be applicable to the huge amounts the northern leaders have siphoned for over 35 years and yoruba's for over 10 years claiming to rule us, we are in this situation today because of them, then the meagre little money allocated to their dubious friends they imposed as our leaders here in the south south you are telling them to account for.

Tomorrow you will blame us for Amaechi/Seminetari/Dakuku of Transport ministry and NNDC for not delivering any good thing/project for us when he is the northern puppet working for them and cancelling projects meant to be sited in the south south.

The injustice is long overdue, the reckoning period for the government is at hand.
