Group alleges plot to kill Oba of Jebba, fingers Ilorin Emirate.

A new twist has been added to the dispute between the Oba of Jebba, HRH Oba Abdulkadir Alabi Adebara and the Ilorin Emirate.
Aides of the Oba made grievous allegations that the Ilorin Emirate controlled by the Fulani is plotting to kill the Oba whose ancestors came to the throne in 1703.
Jebba is the last major Yoruba city on the fringe of the North. The city was established in 1703 by two Yoruba brothers but has seen constant attacks from the Fulani emirate bent on seizing the community the way it had seized Ilorin through a combination of intrigues and high-pitched conspiracies, Irohinoodua reports
The Jebba Progressive Council, (JPC) in a statement signed by Chief Adeolu Ajayi said the Jebba Oba had just returned from an event and was been welcomed by a mammoth crowd when some armed men stormed his place, shooting sporadically. The council accused the Ilorin Emirate of plotting to unseat the Oba and harness Jebba which is totally a Yoruba city. The council said this plot is being orchestrated through instigation of local reactionary elements to thwart the ruling Yoruba dynasty in Jebba.
“There was pandemonium as people scamper for safety. The attack left three people dead with 12 people sustaining sever degree of injuries. A 10-seater bus and two motorcycles parked behind the crowd with armed men alighting from the bus and the motorcycles carried out the attack. Before the crowd could know what was amiss, the men had brought out machetes, arrows, spears and guns attacking everyone”, the council said in a statement made available to Irohinoodua.
Another eyewitness said that the men were assassins who specifically came to kill the Oba.
Following the attack on the Oba, the council is pointing fingers at on Kayode Okedare alleged as the mastermind of the attack.
The council said the accusation prompted the police to raid the home Kayode in a police operation led by Assistant Commissioner of Police, (ACP) Maigama. The council said recovered items were guns, arrows and machetes. He was accused of working with 21 suspected armed men that carried out the attack on the Oba.
The council stated “the issue took a new twist, when the Emir of Illorin, HRH Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari facilitated the release of all the suspects. The news of the release of all the suspects came as a shock to residents of the community and keen observers who queried the motive behind their release. Why did the police release the suspects? Have the police provided adequate security for the Oba and his people? Has the suspects been prosecuted or arraigned in court? What is the interest of the Emir in court? Why is justice truncated? Why was the Oba targeted for assassination? Is the attack politically motivated? Has the Oba ruffled feathers with the powers that be? These are questions begging for answers.”
The council said investigations revealed that Kayode, who is the Principal of Government Secondary School, Jebba, is the brother of Matthew Okedare and Simon Okedare, the current Deputy Speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly and the Clerk of the Kwara State House of Assembly.
