There is a popular phrase that says "The only thing that is constant is change". However, a positive change is what most people long to experience. In the year 1988, Nigeria got to the final of the African cup of nations in Morocco. The tournament was tagged Maroc '88 an twelve African countries participated in that competition.

Nigeria and Cameroon played the final match. The Francophone nation pipped Nigeria 1-0 even though a legitimate equaliser was scored by the Eagles.

A year later, the West African giants appointed Clemens Westerhoff as the technical adviser of the team. The military government of that time was a soccer loving one and that had a positive effect on what happened to Nigerian football at that time.

The Dutchman had an easy access to Nigeria's number two citizen. Westerhoff was given a five year contract and he didn't have to contend with any form of interference from the Nigerian Football Association (NFA).

National talent hunt
