A top source in the House of Representatives risclosed that efforts were on to mobilize legislators against Dogara – Meanwhile, others sources in the leadership of the House stated that this agenda cannot be achieved.
Some lawmakers at the House of Representatives reportedly opposed to continued leadership of the chamber by Yakubu Dogara are moving a vote of no confidence against the Speaker and the entire leadership, Premium Times reports. The two chambers of the legislative power will resume on September 20, Tuesday, following a lengthy recess that commenced on July 21. However, Dogara’s loyalists are also preparing to block any move against the speaker, who is blamed for budget fraud.

The speaker’s supporters are expected to give him a standing ovation at the end of his speech opening the new session. One of the sources said: “We have not concluded moves to remove the Speaker, but the vote of no confidence agenda was being considered.
”He added that they would decide later tonight whether to go ahead with the plan. Meanwhile, the insider in the House claimed the agenda would not materialise. “While they are planning (the vote of no confidence), others are planning to pass vote of confidence in the leadership of the House,” he said. “I want you to know that after the prayer, first thing tomorrow is the Speaker’s speech. In the speech, he will welcome everybody and address all the issues and the allegations. Then, his supporters will rise to give him standing ovation, which will be followed by a vote of confidence. “So, I doubt if those planning vote of no confidence will still go ahead.”

Mr. Dogara was accused of the budget scam and abuse of office. The accusations were also leveled against against some other legislators by Abdulmumin Jibrin, who was removed as chairman of the House Appropriations Committee shortly before the House went on the recess. The speaker, meanwhile, denied the allegations. In the spate of the accusations, some members formed the Transparency Group and called for the prosecution of Dogara and other accused persons.
