A "SUSPICIOUS object" has sparked an evacuation of the US embassy in Oslo, Norway, as America is on high alert following the spate of recent bombings.

A bomb squad is at the scene and 250 people had been evacuated.

The area had been cleared and Norweigan Police are working out whether the object found in a container posed a danger to the public.

It was in the construction site is in the district of Huseby on the western outskirts of the city.

Bombings in New York and New Jersey mean over the weekend mean the US is on high alert.

Christian Krohn, who was at the site when the evacuation took place, said construction workers alerted police to the suspicious object around 10.30am local time.

Christian described it as “likely to cause fear”.
