Abeg where did u hear the news that Oyo helped Osun to pay 4months salary ooo?

Plus why can't Oyo have their own university instead of trying to breach co-ownership contract.

Oyo state Government That Is owing civil servants about 4 months salary with lot of and lot of Abandoned road projects scattered everywhere. Its highly Lugubrious and laughable That the Same Government Is talking about Sole ownership of Lautech.
Though they are right to discuss the issue of joint ownership critically . Oyo had wanted to part way with during the tenure of Akala it was his loss at the election that gave room for the present lopsided arrangement. Let the school go with Oyo & let the other hospital at Osogbo be merged with Uni-Osun .

Oyo should just take over LAUTECH 'cos that's gonna be the best option in the long run. Students have been sent home since June 13 in disguise of break.
Osun should just face their UNIOSUN squarely. This will also help osun to pay her workers

I could remembered vividly 2011,during the regime of Gov Alao Akala, just like he knew that this kinda thing will surface later, he and the members of Oyo state house of assembly then called for this move but the people of Oyo state taught he was play politics on them not knowing that he was trying to save them from what is happening presently. Ogbeni Aregbe called him a mad man that he doesn't know what is doing...that Gov Akala he did it because they're in diff party... now that they're from the same party they find difficult to manage the institution... I pray make you succeed with your move and stop toying with the life of the students #save_lautech

You see until Akala built 2 giant hospitals in Ogbomoso, one teaching and other general, Lautech medical students used to go to Osogbo, after the completion of the teaching hospital, Akala recalled them back to Ogbomoso instead of travelling to Osogbo every fortnight. When Ajumobi became governor, he abandoned the teaching hospital and sent the medical students back to Osogbo cos they are both APC govs. Oyo state people are very foolish to have voted ajumobi

Re: Oyo Assembly Moves To Take Over LAUTECH by mytym(m): 12:17am On Sep 24, 2016
Well, I have read all comments and we all have our sentiments and objectives.

A University is created by law and the ownership of the school between the two states was birthed by law which means the agreement will have to be dissolved by law not through Jacobic methods of victim propaganda that one of the parties involved is portraying .

The ownership imbroglio had started around mid-late 2009 during Akala-Oyinlola respective tenures. This was because Governor akala wanted Oyo state to be the sole proprietor of the school. Unfortunately he's not lettered so his approach was cumbersome and crude. Also, Lautech had developed to be a household school at the time.

One of the deeds of ownership states that both States shall regularly promote the required responsibility for development both physical (structures) and academic.

There had been misgivings in 2009 that only Osun indigenes enjoy the medical services of LTH (Lautech Teaching Hospital) located in Osogbo. This naturally is correct because of its location and necessitated a plan by the authorities of the school to build LTH Annexes in two 2 major towns of Oyo State (Oyo and Ogbomoso) while another new faculty structure (building) be added to the LTH Osogbo campus, totalling three (3).

The bill usually is 50-50, half-year arrangement which means a particular Governor will fund for 6months while the other follow suit the following 6months. Governor Akala released funds and instructed the authorities to build two 2 Solid hospitals , and 1 Faculty of Health Sciences housing fantastic structures...but ALL in Ogbomoso!

It was a callous and calculated move by Akala, he even equipped the hospital's with state-of-the-art medical gadgets but couldn't get the NMA accreditation bcoz he was told machines won't operate themselves. Apparently he spent more than the normal 50/50 cost-share all in a bid to hijack the school. He later realized that ko le werk.

Meanwhile Osun state had established another separate University with its main campus in Osogbo, but it was at its teething stage also because both states contributed immensely to the growth of LAUTECH. It will be foolhardy to nurse an enterprise from conception and abandon it when it has blossom started bearing fruits. The founding fathers of Lautech had good vision and it was not by mistake the school was rated best state uni twice consecutively (The ratings greatly declined immediately after the ownership tussled ensued). It was simply difficult for osun to part away, just like that, not when the university has successfully register its presence in S/W and even if Osun was going to agree to the arrangement, the manner and approach of Governor Akala would have been seen as rather condescending.

So, in April, 2010 the crisis grew worse. The 3rd VC Prof. B.B Adeleke, an Osun indigene whose tenure was going to expire in July, 2010 was Sacked by Akala barely two 2 days after the 20th Founders Day and a convocation. Activities in the school was paralysed, managed to finish 2009/2010 harmattan exams and went on internal strike just exactly as it is happening now!

Uptill that time 2009/2010 was the longest session lautech recorded(December 2009- December 2010). we had three different internal strikes in rain semester alone. As final year student, we were few and school was very scanty. I remember we would visit the Late Prof. Ayeni's residence every night to charge our phones and PC (School area @Adenike had been without electricity for most part of that session, about 11months thereabout) and read thoroughly all the News dailies to check for any iota of hope of the crisis been resolved and the school resuming.

The hope came in November, we read in the papers FG resolved the issue (however temporarily), the ASUU/ssanu/nasu congress finished their 5-hour meeting around 8:30pm that night @250LT. The strike was called off and rain semester exams started Dec 1, 2010.

Most people didn't realise that the joint funding had helped Lautech to rise faster than its peers. If you doubt this, try and compare with all other state universities established around the same period even some federal unis despite the crisis.

No doubt the partnership is going to end someday but not in the manner Oyo state is going about it.
You cannot force any party to leave...

thanks bro, I was about saying same thing. Back then they opposed the motion due to different political parties ruling the two states, I remembered APC chieftains in Oyo state back then strongly opposed it and because of that Akala couldn't achieve the fit.. It's high time Nigerian politicians see beyond each political group and work together in achieving some things for their state benefits.

It's not that simple, the ownership includes human resources, cerebral assets. Both teaching and non-teaching staffs are from Osun, Oyo and other states. Infact, the ratio of Senior nd principal officers in Lautech that are from Osun state is slightly higher.

The likelihood of FG taking over is slightly higher.
Even if the partnership will.be terminated, and Oyo eventually gets the deal, it will not be immediate, FG will adjudicate over it and I can bet it with you that terms and conditions may not be entirely favourable to Oyo state.

There's no law yet in Nigeria that says two Federal universities can't exist in one state.

There's Adeyemi College of Education in Ondo which has been upgraded by GEJ to a full fledged University of Education.
And there's Federal University of Technology Akure

Both in Ondo State.

preciousnobel:

No, but In 2010, Akala was desperate to takeover the School completely hence tried to replicate everything available at Osogbo in Ogbomoso. He built the hospitals and equipped it well, but it failed ab initio because accreditation also involves having quality faculty members i.e experienced lecturers (Medical Consultants, Professors cum Surgeons in case of a teaching hospital).
He couldn't lure the ones in Osogbo to come to Ogbomoso so NMA in 2010 did not approve the teaching hospitals Akala built in Ogbomoso.

We lost only a couple of months in Ogbomoso that year but the medical students in Osogbo lost a whole academic calendar year.

Akala was already taking decisions solely meanwhile He was only a Co-Visitor to the school. That demeanor didn't help...
