It's been obvious for a long time now that Buhari is a man who has learned nothing new over the past 30 years, and as such nothing but the same old stale rubbish can be expected of him. What is mystifying is the gullibility and ignorance of all the commenters who scream about how terrible it would be to sell "national assets" even when these so-called "assets" have never performed up to expectations within the average Nigerian's entire lifetime. The money spent "repairing" these obsolete and badly located refineries over the last 10 years would have been more than enough to build 6 brand new ones from scratch in the same time period, yet mention the word "privatization" and all manner of educated illiterates come out of the woodwork to spout rubbish about "patrimony" and so on.

The only way that would be a gain is if we refine our own products locally . Do you think those countries exporting refined products to us noticed any loss? No they didn't because the only thing that changed is the govt passing the cost of subsidy directly to the consumer.

Correct explanation; I wish PMB understand this. He is just impoverishing the same people he was supposed to protect.

We need to tell ourselves the truth, we don't have refineries in this country. They should atop deceiving people about the existence of refineries that can not work at all. My advice is for those things to be cleared or sold at scrap value. Then we should have a 5 years master plan of building digital refineries in all oil producing States. Modern refineries don't take much space and time for construction. Those our refineries are obsolete and can't function at optimality.
