Science is organized knowledge. Wisdom is organized life. But knowledge is not always fruitful without wisdom. To decide between Public administration and Political science is like to choose from either of wisdom or knowledge. Doubt is not an agreeable condition, but certainty is an absurd one. Hence, this article tries to bring about the pros and cons of both Public Administration and Political Science before coming to a conclusion.
Political science is a social science discipline concerned with the study of the state, government and politics. Political Scientists see themselves engaged in revealing the relationships underlying political events and conditions and from these revelations and attempt to construct general principles about the way the world of politics functions. Political Science gives an exact theoretical model of the functioning of the state, which easily gets hammered into the heads of laymen as well. Thus it simplifies even a complicated functioning system.
Career Opportunities related to Political Science:
A Bachelors degree in Political Science can pave way to promising careers in any of the three Governments- Federal, State or Local. A Political Scientist can find himself working as a Lawyer, Journalist, Banking Analyst or Executive, Financial Consultant, Public Affairs Research Analyst, Free-lance Writer, Immigration Officer, Juvenile Justice Specialist, or a Teacher to name a few.
On the other hand, Public Administration is centrally concerned with the organization of Government policies and programmes as well as the behavior of officials formally responsible for their conduct. It does not provide any theoretical modeling to the functioning; rather it directly explains the practical difficulties and shows the practicality of the happenings. Though it might not provide the technicality of things, it explains the way things get implemented.
Career Opportunities related to Public Administration:
While Political Science can place you anywhere ranging from a law firm to a lobby, even a book on the number of jobs related to Public Administration will not suffice the purpose. But, to name a few, an educational degree in Public Administration can make you a Policy Advisor, Budget Analyst, City Manager, Executive Assistant, Administrative Services Manager, Emergency Management Specialist, Legislators, Social and Community Services Manager, Educational Administrators, Managements Analysts etc
It is always better to have a prior insight into any field before entering it. Politics is perhaps the only profession where no preparation is thought necessary. Hence it can be said that, Public Administration becomes effective with Political Science. It is neither the strongest of species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change. Owing to the current IQ standards and the way people have started thinking and acting, it can be concluded that Public Administration teaches people the necessity behind things thus forcing Political Science to take a back seat.
