Fresh clashes broke out between butchers at the Alayabiagba Market and suspected cultists in. Ajegunle area of Lagos, yesterday, with several persons sustaining severe injuries.

Adewale Fakunle

The fracas, which started Tuesday night, during which a butcher was killed, escalated yesterday and disrupted commercial activities for the better part of the day.

Vanguard gathered that the crisis was not unconnected with weekend’s killing of a commercial bus driver, Adewale Fakunle, by suspected cultists in Tolu area of Lagos.

The deceased, who was returning from a friend’s place at 10p.m., reportedly walked into the cultists, who were just smarting from a defeat from a rival group.

“They were said to have attacked the helpless commercial bus driver with cutlasses and abandoned him in a pool of his blood to die.

He, however, managed to get to his 14, Baale Aiyetoro home, from where he was rushed to the hospital, only to be confirmed dead.

Eyewitness account

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, yesterday, told Vanguard: “The fight was between some eleran (butchers) and Alayabiagba boys. One of the eleran was returning from a party at the weekend, but was ambushed by Alayabiagba boys.

“They collected his phone and money, beat him to coma, leading to his death.

“The eleran boys confronted the Alayabiagba boys on why they killed their colleague. This resulted in a reprisal attack on Tuesday night during which one Alayabiagba boys was killed.

“The fight continued today (yesterday) with dangerous weapons freely used. They attacked anyone in sight. Hoodlums used the opportunity to rob innocent persons and also looted shops.”

Expended bullets from locally-made weapons used by the warring factions littered the area, with bloodstains everywhere.

Policemen, led by Area ‘B’ Apapa Commander, Mohammed Nuru, and soldiers attached to OP MESA eventually contained the situation.

However, residents and traders said they were still afraid of possible reprisals. Some of the traders refused to open even with the presence of the security operatives.

Mynd44 other than giving a ban and closing threads....

You are wrong and vanguard is right. The term cultist best describes those people. In Nigeria when they say cultist, we are quick to label them students of higher institution, which is a big no. Motor park touts also have cults. OPC is a cult

I thought these (cultic) fights happen in Ikorodu area alone.

Having a fight with buchters is suicidal.

Do you know what "cults" are? Please look it up for better understanding.

When did "Alayabiagba boys" become a cult?

And motor part touts dont have cults, they are majorly gang members. Again, go look up what makes a cult and what makes a gang.

Students of hugher institutions are not and have not been cultists since the late 1900s(with the exception of SAC also called "Eiye" and even they are letting go of what makes them a cult) . They are gangs; calling them "cults" is a reflection of our bad understanding of English. This is the same thing s calling the Bloods and CRIPS cults when they are merely gangs

A. The word cult has three definitions. First of
all, it can simply be a group that loves
something. When people refer to an "Elvis cult"
or "The O.C. cult," they mean really devoted
fans.
The second definition is that of a religion whose
beliefs differ from the majority around them. In
the Roman Empire, Christians were sometimes
considered a cult because they worshiped Jesus
rather than the Roman gods.
The third, and most commonly used definition,
refers to a religious group that is:
1) Exclusive. They may say, "We're the only ones
with the truth; everyone else is wrong; and if you
leave our group your salvation is in danger."
2) Secretive. Certain teachings are not available
to outsiders or they're presented only to certain
members, sometimes after taking vows of
confidentiality.
3) Authoritarian. A human leader expects total
loyalty and unquestioned obedience.
For the most part, this third definition of cult is
being used less and less today. Experts who
watch for dangerous or harmful religious groups
now use the term new religious movements. The
word cult can hurt people because it carries so
much negative meaning. My sister was accuser
of being in a cult just because she preferred
hanging out with Christian friends rather than
going out drinking with other friends. She might
have been in with a group of people that was
unlike the norm (because they devotedly
followed Christ), but she certainly wasn't
following a harmful faith.

And which of these three do Alayabiagba boys fit into? What do they love? Do they have any religious intonation?

Now look up "Gang".

Until the bear Eiye, Aye is when they become cult is it? You need to lookup both definition.
A gang can mean a group of coworkers, colleagues in school, hang out crew and the likes. A cult is an unorthodox gathering.

And with this you can see that in this context, these guys dont have a common or shared ideal to commamd them being a cult. Elvis and Micheal Jackson has a "cult following" are those people cultists?

These Street guys and students do not have any ideals or religious inclination except Eiye as it relates to JkJK) to warrant being called a cult. They are gangs. These Alayabiagba boys are gang members.

End.
