ABUJA—The face-off between the national chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, and a national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, got messier yesterday as the national vice chairman of the party in the South-South, Hilliard Etta, took on his counterpart in the South-West, Pius Akinyelure, accusing him of double-dealing.

Speaking with journalists yesterday in Abuja, Etta accused Mr. Akinyelure of speaking from both sides of his mouth, saying having agreed to the resolution of the National Working Committee, NWC, to jettison the report of its appeal committee on Ondo governorship primary, the south-west zonal party chairman could not turn around to criticise the decision.

Etta spoke following comments by Akinyelure in a national newspaper yesterday where he accused Odigie-Oyegun and some other NWC members of having railroaded the body to jettison the report.

“It was a very clear-cut matter; we had read various newspaper reports, but I can tell you that no vote was taken.

‘’Before we met on the last day for the submission of name to INEC, we had met earlier; in that meeting, there were two reports before the NWC, that of the appeal committee was voted on. That very day, we were 14 in number, not 11.

‘’Thirteen of us voted for the appeal committee’s report to be thrown out; only one person voted for us to retain the report and that person was the National Vice Chairman, North Central, Alhaji Zakari Indeh. Pius Akinyelure voted that the report should be thrown out.

“After that, we mandated our National Chairman and Secretary to go out and do wider consultations, so we can have a political solution to the heated environment the situation has caused the party.

Akinyelure, however, faulted the claim by Etta when contacted by Vanguard as he insisted that he did not vote to reject the report.

“How can I vote to reject the report and turn around again,” he quipped last night.

APC has set a dangerous precedent in its handling of this matter in that such a fraud that took place at the Ondo primary was legitimized by fiat by the party even after the panel it setup came up with a damning report on the election.

It means that if there is a reoccurence in the future, this same cabal will legitimize a similar fraud with impunity.

I am left wondering why they threw out the panel report they themselves setup, without denying the allegation that the delegates list was indeed doctored and padded to favour a particular candidate to the detriment of others.

I imagine that this cabal of a people have succeeded in using this incident as a dangerous precedent and template for future frauds of this nature in the party to impose their preferred candidates. Na Buhari himself go benefit from this kind behavior in the near future if it is allowed to stand, after the same set alter or 'pad' the delegates list in a future presidential primary to give him an edge over his opponents with impunity. Little wonder Atiku (a potential contender, cried foul). APC has no future.

If Akinyelure indeed voted that the bill be thrown out, it still doesn't mean that he did so intentionally. Such voting took place on the eve of the meeting day. What happened at the meeting was just a formality. Before meetings that determine political fortunes actually take place, series of meetings have taken place behind the scenes. It is in those meetings behind the scenes that potential opposition is muzzled. Time will tell.

If they can go this lenght within the party what will they not do to win election by crook as the other party is currently alledging in Edo.

In all of these mess, Buhari remains the biggest looser, he pretented to be what he's not and defrauded us.

If Oyegun can be this desperate within his party, only God knows what he must have done in Edo to subvert the peoples will. I see more unprecedented rigging loading in elections conducted by this inec..
