Desigo Launches National Essay Competition To Stimulate Youths Towards Tourism by Adesinaayo: 1:41pm On Oct 13, 2016
As part of its efforts to continuously promote tourism in Nigeria and Africa in unique and creative ways that will lead to genuine development, a leading Nigerian tourism development and facility management company, Desigo has initiated a National Essay Competition to re-jig the orientation and stimulate the deep thinking of Nigerian youths towards tourism.
The national essay competition which is being launched under the Youth Tourism Connect initiative of the company is divided into two categories and opened to all Nigerian youths from the ages of 11 to 18 years and 19 to 35 years respectively.

Speaking on the initiative, the founder and the CEO of the company, Abigail Olagbaye said the competition is one of the ways Desigo has determined to arouse the interest of an average Nigerian youth in tourism development as well as engage them in tourism discourse.
“As a Nigerian girl growing up in Africa, I observed our environment, cultural and natural heritages as a people with diverse ethnicities and cultural divides and I concluded that though Africa has treaded a long tortuous path of history, we still hold in custody some of the world’s most outstanding tourism products in human history, unfortunately, much is not done to resourcefully promote these potentials and more importantly, the youths are not in any way connected to this development. Therefore, this essay competition comes as one of our many ways to stimulate their interest and ultimately raise awareness about the tourism industry in Nigeria.” She stated
Meanwhile, the essay competition is in two categories, Junior- from age of 11 to 18 years and Senior- between the ages of 19 and 35 years respectively, while the junior ones will write on the topic-“citing major tourists attractions and products in your state discuss the role of internet/ ICT in developing tourism in Nigeria”, their senior counterpart will dwell on the topic- “citing major tourists attractions and products in your state discuss the comparative advantage of Nigeria’s tourism and how it can engineer economic boost for national development”.

The essay which should be between 500 – 1000 words is among others, expected to be original, analytical, intelligent and creative. It is going to be opened on October 31st and to close on December 9th this year. While the prizes include cash prizes, travels, internet-enabled iPad and other fascinating items.
