God designed those creatures to have eyes at the sides so they would see predators stalking them from behind and before..only the sick,elderly,careless get preyed on (though carnivores employ other means and maneuvers like speed (cheetah) and group attack (like lions bringing down a matured bufallo or giraffe) to stalk and bring down healthy herbivores).
