Usman Bugaje, an ambassadorial nominee from Katsina state, has given a reason why he turned down President Muhammadu Buhari’s offer.

He has declined to speak to the media on his decision.

But on his Facebook page on Wednesday, the northern politician‎ thanked Buhari for the appointment, but he said he could not accept it because his hands were full.

“Regarding the published nomination for an ambassadorial posting, I have not spoken to the press and may not do so anytime soon,” he wrote.

“I thank those who think me fit for the job, but I have so much in my hands already, especially the Arewa Research and Development Project (ARDP), which is the only broad platform in the north driving development.

“I have weighed the options and have decided to remain home and continue the struggle for development and good governance.”

Pauline Tallen, former deputy governor of Plateau state, had also rejected her ambassadorial appointment, citing lack of “proper consultation” as the reason for her decision.

On Monday, governors elected on the All Progressives‎ Congress (APC) platform met with Buhari to express their concerns over the list of ambassadorial nominees.

But the president told them to put their concerns in writing.

Akintunde Akinwande, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has also turned down his appointment as‎ the chairman of the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

he is fully aware there is no open-arms welcome for those who practise, who intend to practise or who have practised looting and embezzlement under this administration. Of what good is it to go hunting without bringing home a game undecided

He wasn't consulted before he was nominated. Unlike then, when the IB was there. People had to lobby their way in and out. Nigeria is gradually getting there. You now get appointed and nominated because you're qualified and not because you know someone who knows another person that knows somebody up there. Thanks to Buhari!

Lies, failure is an orphan. Even in advance societies lobbying is allowed provided you are qualified.

What was the qualification of the guy with a 1 year diploma certificate who was propped up to lead a highly specialised body like the NCC.

Don't runaway from the truth, they don't want to be associated with recession, the set of ministers in buhari's time and GEJ time; which one is more of nepotism. Please do ur research and think, b4 coming here to spew trash.

Before I answer that, I would like to know the academic requirements for the office of Governor or a National Assembly seat. If an SSCE holder can vie to become a Governor, why then would a Diploma certificate holder not be qualified to lead a highly specialized body like the NCC?

You're the one spewing trash.

Lemme place you where you truly belong. Why did Jonathan sack Bolaji Abdulahi, the then Minister of Sports? Is it not because of his alleged loyalty to Saraki? Saraki paved way for him to become a Minister under Jonathan because they were in good terms then. When the going was no longer good, he had to sack Saraki's boy. How about Ama Pepple? Ruqayattu Rufa'i? They were all beneficiaries and victims of political godfatherism and favouritism. Their appointment didn't come from Jonathan's heart!

The NCC is a highly specialized body that requires seasoned and tested trained personnel abreast with global best practices to man. Not some juvenile nonentity to be appointed.

Else, we can handover the CBN governorship to a fresher who just finished ICAN to lead.

I don't blame them, after all a certificateless NEPA bill owner is currently the president courtesy Zombies.

If everyone is running away who will actually accept to be part of this administration

Some really has their hands full and others just because personal gratification might not be possible in this dispensation

I'm really sure some of these ministers who's presently in this administration might not really come back not because the president won't want them back but they'll surely love to represent "their people in Senate" an excuse to have enough money with them

But in all the interest of Nigeria should be our leaders guiding light

I wouldnt accept his appointment either he is a very stingy man from a very stingy party
He would starve you of fund to the extent that your office will be next to useless
And dictate what you have to do from aso rock
Ask his ministers they are all useless no fund to implement anything

When nonentities like you spew trash on Nairaland, I just laugh. I don't know why any sane fellow would equalize CBN and NCC! That aside, Buhari studied at US war college for a diploma equivalent to an MSc. I guess his SSCE wasn't a prerequisite to study there? And if it was, what did he present to them as his SSCE? NEPA certificate? I know you're still traumatized over the election loss of your hero but that shouldn't get you insane.

In politic sometimes you send people to a siberia called ambassadorial jobs, but most likely Bugaje doesn't want to go as he is gunning to be the governor of katsina and bugaje is an atikuist

To be honest is very wrong to appoint someone to any position and by anyone without consulting him, there should be offer and acceptance before they go the media to announce appointments

Bugaje rejected it because he is a career politician who knows what residing full time outside Nigeria will do to his political influence in Nigeria.

Paulen Tallen rejected it because she felt that her Senatorial zone has been unduly favoured with virtually all the appointments for Plateau State which has the potential to create bad blood among the people; she is really a mother to that state. She wants appointment to be spread across the State.
