With a jostling for positions at the top of the Premier League that has not been seen for some time, none of the title chasers can afford to drop many points in November.

So far, Arsenal’s season has gone according to how it always does during the Wenger years.

A bumpy start, which can often include an opening day loss is then followed up by exemplary performances and results in September and October.

For example, 2015/2016 saw Arsenal lose their opening Premier League game to West Ham. From there the Gunners improved in September and October, beating the likes of champions Leicester and Manchester United at home.

In 2016/2017, the Gunners were beaten by Liverpool on the first day of the season and then followed this up with a creditable draw at Leicester and then a run that has taken them to second in the Premier League table.

Arsenal are level with Manchester City and Liverpool on points and look well equipped to go the distance this season in the Premier League and Champions League.

Arsenal’s November curse
So why should Arsenal fans be worried about November?
Traditionally, as can be seen on the graph below, which shows the average number of points gained per month by Arsenal under Arsene Wenger, November is usually a disaster.

In 2015/2016, Arsenal were hammered 5-1 at Bayern Munich, drew with Spurs at home, then lost at West Brom before drawing with Norwich who would go onto get relegated.

November 2015 was a disastrous month for Arsenal. Compounded by how the season panned out with Leicester winning the title.

As a result, Sundays north London derby is huge. If Arsenal can start November with a win they will have a massive opportunity to push their great rivals further down the league and kick off what is traditionally their worst month.

Arsenal’s full fixture list for November is: Ludogorets (a), Spurs (h), Manchester United (a), PSG (h), Bournemouth (h) & Southampton (h).

No wonder many Arsenal fans are calling for many big name players to be rested for Ludogorets on Tuesday…

"We've had difficult Novembers in previous seasons, but
we've also had positive ones in our history too. The most
important thing is to not live in the past, we have to live with
the team we have at the moment.
"Our destiny lies in the minds of the players, how strong our
focus is and how hungry we are. We need to be like that in
every single game, starting on Tuesday."
...Arsene Wenger
