Yes people have really answered your question very well. As an addendum, just go for your BSc because no university, I repeat no university will employ you as a lecturer even if you have bagged your PhD as long as your first degree is HND. Yes as someone said, MBA is a professional master's degree, hence it is not accepted for lecturing. Just do your BSc Business Administration, MSc Business Administration and you're good to go. You can also enroll for your ICAN while doing your BSc, it will improve your chances. Goodluck

my dear OP you have to understand that the universities and polytechnics are not in thesame line in terms of academic (lecturing) career pursuit. Irrespective of the fact that they are both known equivalents in the workforce, the basic requirement for lecturing career in the university is that you must get a degree. while for polytechnic, with your HND + PGD, you are qualified to lecture, and it must be your core course. I am an engineering technologist speaking from experience. The university requires nothing less of university standard, while polytechnic requirement is lesser, discrimination appears to have been lifted by government, but the polytechnic will still require more time to attain her perfection.

My brother, I am currently in the teaching profession with HND and it's paying me well. Just go and do a Post Graduate Diploma in Education ( 1 year) for a start. A lot of Polytechnics need lecturers. You can start from there and then do your masters degree and move to a University. By then you must have gained at least 2 years lecturing experience before moving to a University. Nigeria work is solely based on experience and not just carrying certificate around. #speaking from concrete experience#

@ OP, get a PGD Cerificate, after that proceed to an M.Sc course and then apply for lecturing job. the least requirement for lecturing job in nigerian and other private universities is M.Sc, some even require Ph.D. i wish you Goodluck @

Well i was a victim of this catastophic system of discrimination in Nigeria before i decided to go for my B-Eng through D.E.
I Had Hnd as at the time i was 23 and having completed my NYSC at the the said time , I applied for a job in a bank and got invited for a test and i did extremely well in the test and was invited for interview. When i got to the interview room, the HR came in immediately asked if they had any HND here i raised up my hands. Even some 2-2 made it to interview but to my surprise i was asked to leave the hall despite having graduated with HND Upper credit.
I felt disappointed that same year applied for a direct entry and after 3 years of Hard word i graduated with 2-1 at the prestigiouse Federal University of technology.
Now bros let me let the point it out.
The minimum entry requirement in a university as a lecturer is Degree so HND is never a degree and will never be an equivalent to a degree in as much as this country is concerned.
Bros toe the the right track and go for a degree then a masters if you are keen about working in academia.
HND+PGD+MSC= SCRAB IN ACCADEMICS IN THE UNIVERSITY.

Again Online degree+Online Masters in Nigeria = Scrab in Nigeria university

u can as well try private university. In private university e.g jabu, achievers, ajayi crowther) , just go through a year conversion programme from HND to Bsc with just btw 250 to 300k some of these universties mentioned earlier. The gap btw HND and Bsc is very wide. Some department in faculty of mgt sciences in most federal universities will not admit candidate with HND + PGD for Msc prog because of d stiff competition..even to pursue Msc with 2.2 in business, the chance is slim

my advice to you is this, try as much as possible to finish with a first class. It will not be easy but it is achievable.
First class is the only thing that will compensate for doing Bsc at this age.

I was able to make a first class because I was determined. in the early part of the program, I made sure I scored the maximum points.

Remember that I did HND in accounting, so from level 200 to 400 I maintained a cgpa of 4.89. my worst result was in 500l. Finally, I finished with 4.7 as earlier stated.

As at today, there is hardly any company I apply to that doesn't invite me for interview.

The only point of disagreement has always been during negotiations.

Currently, I have over 14 years experience in accounting function.

My only, deficiency which I want to start working on is lack of good comportment during public speaking. The reason is quite obvious, I was a book worm during my poly and uni days.

I hardly socialise. A friend has introduced me to toastmasters and I want to check them out this weekend in their Ikeja branch.

All you need is to start with a Post Graduate Diploma in Education. Then move on to M.Sc/M.Ed and then on and on...

with NOUN u can have your pgd within one year then proceed for your masters. If. You can endure, you can start from 200 level at NOUN and after that go for your masters. Another one I know is fountain university ososgbo. A friend told me that they are running a program for HND holders to start from 300 level in order to have degree certificate.

No university will employ him as a lecturer even with HND+PGD+MSC, only polytechnic can. Even to be employed in a polytechnic the PGD should be in the core field(mass comm not in education+ MSC. Academic carreer for HND is very narrow , you can only work as a technologist, so my advice is obtain a degree if you're passionate about working in academic as lecturer. I'm a senior technologist working in a polytechnic , speaking from experience

You can check out University of Uyo. I currently have a course mate who joined us in 300level with Distinction in HND, and his performances have been excellent. Your chances of graduating with a first class is very high if you actually know your stuff.
