As in! I can't verify the accuracy of this statement but let's hope it's not true. The sheer idiocy exhibited by the maker is only overshadowed by the mindless and brazen manner in which the statement is made.

They said we don't export more and now they are saying primary produce are exported with a negative consequence.
Does this mean our Balance of Trade and Balance of Payment will be favourable or unfavourable?

It is high time this Government designed workable and actionable policies to recover from this recession and stop creating panic.

We already know Fulanis are stopping people from going to farm in some North Central States and few other States, Garba Shehu doesn't want to attribute that to the marauders and bringing this to cover the act by blaming over exportation.

Which way Naija?

The cattle rearers and farmers do not remit a single penny to the national treasury. Rather they go about freely and carelessly, thinking agriculture is only about land and rainfall, without any economic /scientific research institute and administrative structure to reap it's benefit through taxation and proper policy frame work for society's .
it's so sad that to think Buhari can revive agriculture without building a frame work and research institute. It's like pouring water in a basket.
Food security does not end in the farm, it is a complex web of policy and business activities from farm to agro allied industries to serve national interest.
This is where he should have put all his energy, but he would rather be the petroleum minister than the agricultural minister.
how do you expect buhari and his French agriculture minister to grasp what you've just said

Incompetence is the name of this administration...

If you happens to be an exporter of foodstuffs will you be more concerned by strategic export or profit? Or are farmers likes OBJ interested in nigerias food security or their ROI?

It is the duty of government to have in place checks to avoid famine as a result of excessive export.

So zombie who's the nitwit now

Suppose the government installs checks in the form of duties and border control, you'll still hear Trumpet calls of how the govt is insensitive to people's plight: "no jobs, and farmers can't even be allowed to take their produce to better markets...you don't feed us, and you don't let us feed ourselves...you are taxing Nigerians for their own sweat"

However, to be forewarned is to be forearmed. A government doesn't summarily impose duties on a hungry people. People might misunderstand it. You have to use moral suasion sometimes instead of the force of law. Sometimes delicate means are the best option in delicate times.

Only problem is we have poor concept generators and ideators. And too many people screaming for blood.

"When there are no good roads to send the farm produce to the market why won't there be famine? When subsidies that would encourage production is either suspended or diverted why won't there be famine? When banks do not lend to smale scale farmers why won't there be famine? When Fulani/Libyan herdsmen would destroy tons of food crops (especially those precious rice farms) why won't there be famine ? When there are better and more qualified technocrats who are tested and trusted to handle the ministry of Agriculture and you go and hire an Octnogerian who read French why won't there be famine? As if the recession (or is it now depression) is not enough now we are told to expect famine. Since the crisis in places like Syria started the price of wheat was projected to go up, so this was not unexpected. But you don't justify famine by satisfying export needs first. Its like asking Nigerians to bear part of the cost of exporting wheat abroad. Exports are only desible where local demand is met and there is excess production afterwards to export. Part of the governments responsibility and priority should be to maintain domestic price stability first. How can there be scarcity of grains and you want to export below the margin of domestic demand? This is a clear sign that the government is more interested in Nigerians bearing more pain for meeting foreign demand than stabilizing domestic prices first".

Another lie from Garba Shehu.

Which grain is that, that nigeria produce in quantity & export?
Rice, maize, millet or what?

The point is they are already looking for excuse to protect themselves from being accussed of leading nigeria in endless pain next year.

If we export “grain“ (whatever that stands for) as this lair claims, why is it not reflecting in our forex?

Abeg... We just entered into a sick motionless gorvernment.

God save us

Is that what will lead to famine in 2017? But when GEJ was owing fertilizer debt, the country was not suffering from famine and high food prices? #kontinu
That's cos it takes time for crop to grow and its shortage to negetively impact National grain reserve. Crops don't grow in 1 week . . . . Get simple facts right.

We were told to export and export and export. But now there is 'threat' of famine. Anyway, I think this is a good famine. It will lead to increased food production. I think we will survive it.
