The deadliest squad in African women football led by the most dreaded player in African women soccer, Asisat "SuperZee" Oshoala....

Let the action begin... grin

Super Falcons for La Decima!!!

Our previous triumphs came in 1991, 1995, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2014 (Nine times we have conquered Africa overall). smiley
In 2008, we finished third. In 2012, we finished fourth. And both editions were in Equatorial Guinea.

@robosky02, the info you supplied says we've won the competion 7 times, but i think we've won 9. we are gunning for the 10th trophy in 12 attempts. the other two were won by Equatorial Guinea

The competition began properly in 1998, where it was hosted by Nigeria. The previous editions were majorly world cup qualifiers played on home and away format.

But CAF recognizes the 1991 and 1995 wins as official titles.

then this should be our 10th attempt not the 12th. he made it seem like we failed to win on 4 occasions

Thought so too, cos it has always been reported as 9 trophies

Of course they do, but it wasn't a tournament then in the real sense, since there was no central host. So this is the 10th or 12th championship depending on the angle it's seen from.

The Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON ) was initially started as a championship in Nigeria in 1991 and 1995 (known as the African Women's Championship until 2015) is an international women's football competition held every two years and sanctioned by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
However it was not until 1998 that it became a biennial event endorsed by CAF.

Nigeria is the most successful nation is the tournament's history, having won a record 7 Times including the two championsship in 1991 and 1995 a totall of 9 titles, meaning they have won all but two of the previous tournaments.]

The competition has served as a qualifying tournament for the FIFA Women's World Cup every other tournament since its inception in 1991.
However in August 2015, the CAF Executive Committee decided to change the name of the tournament from the African Women's Championship to the Africa Women Cup of Nations, similar to the men's version, Africa Cup of Nations.
