Phone Repair Myths Debunked (A Must-read For All) by CellPhoneRepai: 5:36pm On Nov 30, 2016
I believe Nairalanders will find this interesting!!

Think you know the truth about cell phone repair services? Think again! We hope to shed some light on a few of the Internet’s most common cell phone repair myths.

Myth #1: Uncooked rice fixes water-damaged phones.
Many blogs will tell you to submerge your water-damaged phone in a bowl or bag of uncooked rice. The rice tip is not only ineffective, but it can also be damaging to your device. “How?” you might be asking. Well, the sugars and starches in rice leave behind a residue, which can speed up corrosion of the phone’s motherboard.
The most effective way to fix a water-damaged device is taking it to a Phone Repair Store. “We use special equipment and chemicals when clearing the motherboard of corrosion,” says CPR expert technician Jacob Braden. “We first scrub everything with isopropyl alcohol. We then use an ultrasonic cleaner with isopropyl alcohol and an aliphatic hydrocarbon. Once cleaned, we flush any debris out and test accordingly. If parts are needed to get the phone up and running, we will proceed from there.”

Myth #2: 3rd party repair shops void carrier warranties.
Most carrier warranties are only good for manufacturer defects – not for ordinary wear and tear or accidental damage. What does that mean for you? If you have a shattered screen, water damage or other accidental damage, your carrier will most likely not repair or replace your phone.
In that case, 3rd party repair shops are your best bet!

Myth #3: Cell phone repairs are timely and inconvenient.
The time it takes to repair your cell phone is dependent on the type and extent of the damage. Same-day repairs are offered for simple problems such as screen replacement. Often times screen replacements may be done within an hour or less! It doesn’t get much faster or more convenient than that!

Myth #4: A cracked screen only affects the aesthetics of the phone.
Shattered screens not only make it hard to use your phone, but they also cause major problems with your device over time. If left unfixed, your phone could suffer from backlight malfunction, dead spots, discoloration and dark spots.

Myth #5: Once you break your phone, it will never truly be the same.
This is a common misconception and it could not be more false! When you take your broken device to a good phone repair store, your device will come out working as good as new! You might also consider screen protectors and durable cases to keep your phone safe from further damage.

I disagree on number one and I'm saying this because it has worked for me - not once but twice. I also got someone to do it when her phone fell into water and it worked. Long-term too.
Definitely not a myth. This is a foreign article so it could depend on the type of rice? Don't know, just a thought.

No 1 is a fact and it works, u debunking it doesnt make it any less efficient.

In other news, beware of scammers like this one in the pic below

No1,completely false. My then Nokia express music phone fell into water,I removed it immediately, disassembled the phone, put it under dry rice, left it for 24hrs&nothing happened to it.it fell in twice.
NB:When your phone falls into water, remove it&do NOT press it again.pressing it will circuit break your device(it will stop power from the battery being transmitted to the device.disassemble it,soak it under rice for 24hrs,then watch the magic

Number one is partially wrong ,rice can actually go a long way in saving the phone , though might not be 100% effective ,but it helps .
So saying its a myth is wrong

tot you want to teach people how to repair phone bro?

I do majority of my phone repairs myself, I remember spending loads of money to fix a particular Blackberry Storm, when I realized the would soon buy land off my money, I just stoop to watch every single thing they and even followed them clandestinely to where they buy the parts, by so doing i learnt to do repairs myself and save me money

rice being a dessicant aids in absorbing moisture, it is quite similar to the tiny pellets you find in your new shoes and bags it helps keeps the moisture out or to a minimum level...
