The Bible says that we can't, but I often think what life would be like without the Genesis curse. Imagine fruit trees and plants growing up with the energy of weeds. Imagine no pain, aging, suffering, disease and death.

One thing that helps me is to put aside the nebulous image of Heaven that most of us have, and to realize that God's Kingdom is physically coming to this earth (literally Heaven on earth), and His Will will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. We get to inherit this earth. God is gifting it to us; and it won't be as it is with its weeds, animals killing animals, its earthquakes, floods, tornadoes, etc.

Think of the most beautiful field of flowers, white-sanded beaches with clear blue water teeming with schools of bright yellow fish, of rows of fruit trees, amazing animals like the tall giraffe and the panda bear, of waterfalls, massive white clouds. Got it? Now toss them out as trash, compared to the things that God has prepared for those that love Him.

It goes hand in hand with Romans 14, which is about Christians judging each other as to what they should eat, drink, etc. Later on in the same portion of Scripture (Sermon on the Mount) Jesus said that when we judge, we should use "righteous judgment."

Have you noticed that the Bible is filled with "childish" stories that (if taken literally) insult the intellect? There's a reason for that.

Years ago I ran a Bible club, after which I told 100 kids to line up for candy. As they did so I noticed that it was a line of greed. The big bullies had pushed their way to the front and the quiet sickly kids were relegated to the back.

So I told the kids to about-face. Then I took great delight in going to the other end of the line first.

That's what God has done with the ultimate gift of everlasting life. He turned the line around, and He it did it by consistently using foolish things to confound the arrogant brats of this world.

Who, with any intellectual dignity, would ever stoop to believe the childish stories of the Bible? The answer is—those who understand that in this world, where the rich get richer and the poor get stomped on, God has turned the line around.

The arrogant bullies of this world lose, big time. God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.

"Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, and said, "Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 18:2-4).

You have to remember that being anti-Bible for many is a hill upon which they will die. It's a huge deal, because if the Bible is God's Word then they are accountable for adultery, fornication, for sinful imaginations, and for lust (which the Bible says is adultery of the heart). So their hard-nosed agenda is to prove that the God of the Bible is unjust in His judgments, and therefore any thought of Judgment Day and Hell is bogus.

So they are searching after truth about as much as a man dying of thirst searches after salt. They rather want to bolster their case for an evil Bible, so they fortify themselves with what they think are mistakes, contradictions, and atrocities, etc.

If you explain that biblical slavery was akin to being a servant to pay off debt, the skeptic will just run off to cut and paste more problems he has with the Bible.

The only effective way to convince him is to move away from his contentious intellect (his carnal mind) and appeal to his God-given society-shaped conscience and take him through the moral Law. With the help of God your aim is to make him thirst after righteousness. It was only when I saw my sins (way back in 1972) that I began to see my danger and whisper "What must I do to be made right with God?" The salt of the Law made me thirst for the righteousness that can only be found in Christ.

You're just quoting one portion of scriptures without a complete understanding.

You make it sound as if God implied that the Israelites couldn't be bought as slaves because He considers them superior.


No. The only reason He said they couldn't be bought as slaves was cos He said they were already His own slaves. Not superiority. He wouldn't share them with anyone else.-Lev 25:42.

Meanwhile, you should modify the Bible chapter you quoted to 25. It' not 24.

The other issue of buying and passing on slaves is similar to buying, transferring and loaning out football players.

It wasn't anything inhumane, erstwhile the Bible wouldn't permit it.
