Kano and Rivers States' Governors Abdullahi Ganduje
and Nyesom Wike on Friday exchanged words over the
federal and state legislative rerun elections due for
December 10 in the latter's state.
Ganduje told State House reporters in Abuja after
meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari that having
won last Saturday's gubernatorial poll in Ondo State, the
All Progressives Congress had fresh ideas and strategies
to win the rerun elections in Rivers State.
Ganduje, who is the chairman of the APC Campaign
Committee for the Rivers rerun polls, said "it is not
normal" to have a free and fair election in Rivers State,
vowing that the APC will make it normal this time.
The governor of Kano stated: "We're prepared, we just
came out of the Ondo elections. We've fresh ideas. Even
though both environments are different but, we've our
own strategies.
"Like in Ondo State, we must ensure we've a free and fair
election. You know in that part of the country, having a
free and fair election is not normal, and we've to make it
normal this time.
"We must ensure that there is security so that people will
come out and vote. That is our main preoccupation at
the moment. We are making wider consultations with
stakeholders and we believe we will succeed."
In his reaction, Wike told State House correspondents on
the telephone that Ganduje's comment was unfortunate.
Wike said his state was waiting for Ganduje to perform a
magic in the forthcoming rerun polls, stressing that
Rivers was only asking for free and fair elections.
"It's unfortunate if he (Ganduje) said so. As far as I'm
concerned, elections have been normal in my part of the
country. All we're asking for is free and fair election. Is
Governor Ganduje speaking on behalf of INEC? Is he the
one conducting the elections now? I've respect for him
as an elderly person, but his statement is unfortunate.
"When his friend won the governorship election in Rivers
State, the election was normal. The election was also
normal in Edo State where his party won. We're waiting
for him to come and perform the magic he did in Kano
State," Wike said. |

Elections av never been normal in the Ssouth. The Seast had that same unfortunate reputation, but Anambra bulked the trend, then other southeast states followed in 2015,to a large extent. Rivers,Delta,Akwa Ibom,in particular av simply refused to move in the general Nigeria direction. 1 Like |

In Ganduje's dictionary, a normal election is when children under 18 are queued up to be counted in an elections, goats and sheep are also counted, card readers malfunctioning is not an issue to halt election. Counting of votes is done in geometrical order rather than arithmetic oder all to favor the APC. |
