NIGERIA'S FALCONS IN THE DARK OVER PAY,
NO CASH FOR STAR DEFENDER'S SURGERY

Okobi in wheel chair on arrival from AWCON in Cameroon

There is now a silent but dangerous standoff
between African champions Super Falcons and
the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) as the team have still been left in the dark as regards their bonuses and allowances.

“No official has been to see the girls at the Agura Hotel. There has been no message from the office (NFF). We are all in the dark as concerns our money,” a team official opened up.

Earlier, top officials had suggested the team will
be attended to when the banks reopen for
business today.

We have now further learnt that the players were paid 500,000 Naira each and officials received 400,000 Naira for them not to boycott their AWCON semi-final against South Africa.

“What we are all asking now is what was the
money meant for? Part of our bonuses or
allowances?”

The cash situation is so serious that star defender Onome Ebi’s injured arm cannot be operated on at the National Hospital in Abuja.

Ebi suffered a serious arm injury and barely
managed to finish the AWCON final against
Cameroon on Saturday.

The cost of the surgery has been put at 500,000 Naira.

The NFF have not been forthcoming with the
money for the surgery, while raising serious
questions about whether the team were insured
for the biennial championship.

Midfielder Ngozi Okobi also suffered a leg injury in the final and had to be ferried on a wheel chair on arrival at the airport in Nigeria.

Hmmm..
What's going on in Nigeria? If our sport representatives are not well cared for, what I hen is then sport minister doing? Or the rule now is "win and get paid, loose and not get paid"?

These ones with injuries should be attended to.
Just look at them, they all look tired and hungry, the other day, they played without their undergarments all because their personal effects did not arrive on time. I pity them shaa.

This is what you get when you have a lawyer as your sport minister. After winning the trophy the NFF and Sport ministry is still delaying their bonuses!

@bolded... Those were the Super Falconets (U-20 team). These ones are the Super Falcons (Senior team).

If you look at the pix closely, you'll find Onome Ebi behind the ones in front, with an injured arm held in an arm-hold cast.

Ngozi Okobi, that no.13 who dazzled in our midfield as our AMF is the one in the wheelchair. She suffered the leg injury against the hard-tackling Camerounians in the final.

Honestly this is sad yet we'll be seeing pictures of the team presenting their AWCON title to the NFF president and other stakeholders like all is well. *smh*

These ladies deserve the best of treatments. Being 10-time champions is no beans.

This is just bad. What have the ladies done to deserve such ill treatment from the football federation? Is it because they are playing in a male dominated sport? Year after year, they give their all for their country yet their take home is pathetic compared to what their male counterparts are earning.

Sport under this government is zero..... But if it's cow, they will know how to treat them asap.

Maybe they should start boycotting games or get paid before matches... This is so unfair, at least this ladies did the Nation proud by winning.

Good point about their match bonuses and appearnace fees. Their take-home is indeed below the standards for a national team as regards what the team eventually gets despite media hyping of the standard $3,000 for the team at major international competitions.

I'm not saying their match and appearance fees should be the same as our guys but they should be paid "handsomely", NOT "beautifully" in a pathetic-kinda way. And they should be paid timely.

The players were promised 16,500 dollars per player for the whole tournament.

$3,000 for each group stage win,
$4,000 for the semifinal win... And
$5,000 for a final triumph.

They got two group stage wins ($6,000) and a draw ($1,500) meaning $16,500 is entitled to each player but they were only paid 500,000 naira to avoid a boycott in the AWCON semis.

Question: Have they been given their $16,500?? Even as we speak... No damn way!!! The players are still being owed... HOW THEY WAN TAKE DO CHRISTMAS FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO CELEBRATE THIS LA DECIMA?

.................
In lagos just yesterday or two days ago, the team were given 50,000 naira per player as reward by another sponsor who hosted the team on arrival from Cameroun.

The NFF may finally respond today but I wonder why they always wanna hear an out-cry before they do the right thing.

We're talking about the finest and most successful female football side in African history. Na wa for the NFF.... A bunch of Entropy-laden individuals. News even say they paid millions for a chartered flight to join the girls in Cameroun for the final.... How did they come about such "funds" in such a short time? *smh*

There was no way the NFF would have paid each Falcon $15,000, not when the FA is barely "struggling to raise funds (I wonder what the corporate sponsors do).

If the NFF can't pay the promised $15k, then $5,000 per player is decent enough.

Yeah.... "Barely struggling to raise funds" yet they were able to charter a flight worth millions to convey Dalung and other dignitaries to Cameroun. I wonder why they did not save that cash to pay the girls too.

Only a selected few led the NFF president should have made that trip. This is just too bad.

You can imagine the speed at which they got together funds to charter that flight smashing to pieces their "barely-struggling-to-raise-funds" anthem.

$5,000 for the girls after what they did at the AWCON and considering that amount alone covers just the final IS PRACTICALLY UNACCEPTABLE.

The Super Falcons deserve more. They deserve fair treatment. Those NFF guys better do the right thing. Enough of robbing our girls. They have never disappointed.

If the girls are taken a little more seriously, I bet you, that will be a super boost for the team to excel at France 2019.

Pinnick is already talking about making our girls world champions. He should know that it all starts from the $16,500 owed the girls.
