It it doesn't use fuel, it uses free energy(sunlight) undecided
You can't buy sunlight but you can buy fuel and by January fuel will be N165 per litre.....so which is better? undecided

You will enjoy it but its more expensive than generator! You are the ignorant here.
For example .... Our 4
batteries cost about ...510.000 naira
Sola panels about 120.000 naira
inverter ....engine .....110.000
controller or something like that i am not sure 30k
The whole shiiit lasted for like 18 months (547 days)before we replaced the batteries
come to think of it,we use 1700 diesel per day for our generator that means 1100x547....601.700 naira

Even a small lumos solar solution (marketed by mtn) is really useful as it can provide power 24/7 for fan, bulb, decoder and tv with 12v dc inlet.

Solar electricity is a very good clean energy. But my worries is the high cost of all the processes from procurement, installation and maintenance. Many people can not afford it...why? we are still importing the components, there are very few solar companies who can make affordable provision and thirdly we havent fully embraced the technology of solar.
Secondly we have a very weak government that doesnt look into the future. There is a solar company owned by a women in kaduna through to out sketch of abuja. She supplies energy as pay as-you-go.She has successfully established a good business for petty traders who need light for their business.Currently she is under huge threat by some silly government policies.

In my opinion we hurriedly jumped into solar energy without counting the cost. How many research engineers do we have in solar? Do we have a place to train engineers and specialists? Do we have a sustained maintenance culture?
I know a couple of homes and businesses that use solar, trust me they are seeing hell....issues upon issues which they didnt have any slight understanding of.
Nigeria has the weather to make it work, but what about the cost?
For now we are trying to get our feet down, but if we plan towards it i think solar electricity is a huge alternative power supply that can compete with hydro and gas generation.
How many hours does she supply electricity in that part of Kaduna?

Re: How Efficient Are Solar Electricity Power Systems? by Nobody: 8:47pm On Dec 12, 2016
Yes it's more expensive than generator but it's worth it at the long run because it doesn't need fuel but free God giving energy which is sunlight to power the house. Calculate how much money you will spend on fuel for a year....while solar panel, you just buy it once and for all and you don't need to buy fuel to power your house for the rest of your life. So who's ignorant undecided

Everyone should be careful during this festive
season,I don't usually share this kind of stories
but this happened before my eyes
Yesterday at about 3pm my Neighbour called an
aboki (shoemaker) to fix her slippers, she allowed
him stay in the compound while she went back
inside to continue with what she was doing ,while
he was fixing her slippers,he added something
inside before stitching it but unfortunately for him
the landlord was upstairs watching the aboki
without the aboki's knowledge....when he was
done he called her to come take her slippers that
he had finished stitching it,she came out of her
apartment and the aboki asked her to wear it
,immediately our landlord screamed from upstairs
"don't put your leg in that slippers.
He rushed down and demanded that the aboki
should wear the slippers first but the aboki
refused ,one thing led to other and the whole
compound was alerted including myself.
We literally had to use force for him to wear the
slippers and immediately he placed his leg my
friend guess what.......
The slippers just cut because the aboki no sew
am well
Have a lovely festive period

Not at all. It does not need any maintenance of any kind if properly setup. Getting original solar panels is the tricky bit. There is nothing as frustrating at having panels that don't charge efficiently. Solar power is far cheaper in this part of the world cause you have at least 10 hours of sunlight daily. If well setup you may as well dump NEPA and go solar 100%.

Solar energy is the way to go.It is unobtrusive, clean, green and non-pollutant.Its initial cost is expensive but running costs is cool.Nigeria is blessed to be in the tropics, and have huge availability of sunlight. If we know half the dangers of coal deploration,we will embrace solar,as regards the issues with greenhouse gases, climatic change and all its attendant factors.Modern economies like Germany, the Netherlands,China and lately, the US are getting involved with not just solar but tidal, hydro,et Al.
Solar does have a low conversion efficiency but researches are still going on and +ve 2,esp in d area of hybridised systems.
I urge Nigerians to embrace this, several white papers have been sent 2 D FG to subside solar panels and PV cells and allow for its mass use,but u know our Govt nah.God help us
PS:Am currently working on a hybrid rooftop system in my MSc Project, for solar?its a thumbs-up.

Battery storage of the collected solar energy is where the real efficiency issue is.
Solar panels at 10% or 20% efficiency are great because they function maintainance free for 20 or more years. Maybe cleaning them and keeping the connection points free of corrosion and buildup, will be the only real task over 20 years of making sunlight into voltage.

Batteries are where the power goes to hold until needed. How much power does the battery drain while sitting idle? Also some energy is lost along the wires as the current transfers from one point to another.
How easily can the battery absorb the energy put into it? Common batteries take a long time to charge and will have a reduced span of functionality if they are charged with over a certain rate of current. More batteries will help take a bigger charge but when the battery bank reaches a certain size, it begins to lose efficiency by the sheer number of connecting cables for parallel and series links. More solar panels then become neccessary at increased cost.
Capacitors have been around for a long time and are similar to batteries in that they take in current and hold it for delayed release. Capicitors have the advantage of being able to fully charge almost instantly and also take a large input charge more efficiently. The disadvantage has been that capacitors have not been able to hold their charges as long as batteries.
Now progress has been made in battery tech that sees battery/capacitor hybrid. Fast charging and low power leakage. Those will make it out to the common market soon.
I would love to see the day when mega capacitors are available to safely collect energy from a lightning strike and hold a good portion of it. Its not easy, as lightning can throw out a gigawatt with ease and seriously damage just about any material. Grounding systems work well for lighting safety and ground capacitors/batteries are a researched and studied thing. Batteries made in the soil and made of soil. Making one big enough and with a super insulator material is what is missing for capturing the energy of lightning bolts. The transformers tech will also have to keep up with it.
One bolt if lightning can power from kaduna to kwara if it can be safely contained. shocked
SANGO! NA TRUE POWER...

my friend though it might actually look expensive but when compared to the amount of fuel used up by generators and the money spent in its maintenance in a year then you will know that it is really worth worth it. I deal with inverter and solar and I can tell you that they are really very efficient

Maintenance is not needed? very funny i must say..As with any mechanical or electrical appliance, PV systems require routine, periodic maintenance. System components may also need repair or replacement from time to time......So solar panels too dont need routine maintenance? inverter doesnt need maintenance? and the solar panels are not cleaned periodically?

NEEDED MAINTENANCE WORK.
1.Visual inspection of solar modules,
2.DC isolators & enclosures,
3.roof penetrations,
4. AC & DC inverter isolators,
5.Test polarity and operation of DC circuit breakers
6.Clean inverter filters where applicable
7.Inverter disconnect test (simulated mains power failure)
8.Check open circuit voltage
9.Clean solar modules on completion where practical

Hope you have learnt something undecided
