It is a pity that we are in this kind of mess! Imagine the government spending #2... billion on food! Why can't the clueless governor use money to renovate the dilapidated classroom in his state? A lot of schools in Kaduna don't have laboratory. What a pity!!!

For God sake what is wrong with Nigerian leaders? Mr El-rufai why not put this money into productive use instead of feeding the agabayas in secondary schools. I stayed in kd for good 5 years, the government schools are nothing to write about, from dilapidated structures to shortage of teachers, the once there are not even qualified to teach yet the Governor wants to waste billions feeding them. I just believe this is another avenue to award contracts to catering companies owned by those at the top.

Even God don tire for naija matter, that am very sure of.

Reality is, we can no longer run free education in Nigeria. Instead of focusing on Quantitative education, we should focus on Qualitative education.
It's good to have the students fed. But how much are the students bringing back to the Government. Be it financially or intellectually. Free education shouldn't be free. There should be a price paid to get the education.

Do this and watch the numbers of cultism reduce in our institution, number of serious minded people will increase.
We shouldn't do everything to score political points here.

Students in boarding secondary schools in Kaduna State will now each be fed at a cost of N300 per day. This follows approval by the Kaduna State Executive Council that the allocation per student be increased N180 to N300 per day. This will cost the government N2.25bn every school year to feed 27,501 students.

The government took the decision to increase the feeding allocation after noting the hike in the prices of foodstuff across the country. A market survey conducted by the Kaduna State Bureau of Statistics between June and September 2016 revealed that there has been a 30% to 40% increase in the prices of food stuff.

This is the second upward review of the feeding allocation this year. In January2016, the Kaduna State Government,in trying to improve the quality of meals given to students in the state boarding schools, had approved N60 per meal as against the N44 per meal that was budgeted in the past. This N60 per meal was piloted in six schools, whose feeding was outsourced to private caterers. Following the significant improvement in the quality of the meals, the scheme will now be applied to all the 31 boarding schools owned by the state government.

This decision means that each student will be fed at N100 per meal, up from the previous N60. Professor Jonathan Nok, the Commissioner of Education, said that “the goal is to ensure that students get the adequate nutrition they need to boost their intellectual capability, stimulate healthy growth andensure they get a well-rounded education”.

Feeding for students in the Junior Secondary Schools in Kaduna State is free, in line with the nine-year free education policy of the present administration. But the Senior Secondary Schools are not yet fully free. Parents and the State Government share the cost of feeding.

How about using that money to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive effectively. That's, providing constant power supply, security, proper training facilities for future employees etc.

Government has no right to feed children, what should be done is providing an environment where you and I can thrive and feed ourselves with whatever we desire.

Good governance is certainly rocket science.

Misplaced priority.
But Sani Shehu can be suspended.
Can't this "accidental governor" just spend that money in another sector that will empower the parents of those students who will in turn feed not only their children in the school, but the society too.

Let's take a look at the Lake Rice in Lagos, a collaboration of businesses between Lagos and Kebbi state.

Rubbish Hellrufai.
