Contrary to statements made that President Jonathan brazed the trail by conceeding defeat to PMB, our neighbours in Ghana have politicians who have consistently been doing same as the loss of a sitting president to an opposition party candidate has become second nature:
- Former President Rawlings after well over a decade as military and civilian president could not instal his anointed candidate as his successor. The opposition candidate won.
- In the next presidential election, Rawling's successor himself lost to another opposition candidate ( John Koffor) who defeated the incumbent president by a margin if only about 20k votes.
- Sitting President John Koffor's anointed candidate (the present President-elect) lost narrowly to an opposition candidate ( Atta Mills)
- Today's sitting President (John Mahatta) assumed office upon Atta Mills death. When he contested against the President elect 4 years ago the case went all the way to the Supreme Court and the president won by a narrow 5-4 margin.
- Now a sitting president has been defeated by an opposition candidate.
Ghana appears to be setting the once in Africa's polical development.
