interesting article and comments. in Ghana public servants receive a pay rise each year. the minimum wage is also reviewed upwards a bit. the tripartite committee made up of government, employers and employees meet to discuss the percentage increment. for salaries it normally hovers between 10%-12.5% of the current basic pay. these adjustments (meant for the next year) are done by the 3rd quarter (of the current year) to enable the Ministry of Finance come out with a credible budget for next year as far as the payment of public sector wages are concerned. the increment for this 2016 was 10% (IMF blah blah blah). the increment for next year is 12.5%.

I hate the idea of govt making noise about salary increase, it gives those gullible Nigerians the opportunity to increase rent, transportation fare, foods etc. How i wish all Nigerians are self employed

abialic:
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, has assured Nigerian workers of a pay rise next year.

Ngige stated this in Awka, the Anambra State capital in an interactive session with journalists on Tuesday.

He said the various committees handling the minimum wage issue were working to arrive at something.

He said the minimum wage under Buhari would not be like any pay rise in the country.

The Minister said, “minimum wage is a constitutional issue and is in the exclusive list.

“The Nigerian workers are entitled to a review of their pay under the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The various committees handling this matter are all working hard to realise the objective. Some are at the final stages of their work.”

He said the kind of minimum wage being worked out by the Buhari administration, would be enforceable by workers in both private and public sectors.
Na was ooh, nothing we no GI hear, you people want to increase wages but are still owing 2 months salary. if una come increase wages na him be say no more salary. thunder destroy all of una mouth.

Ngige said that the new minimum wage would be couched in such a way that any employer of Labour in the country who would pay his workers below the minimum wage would be held liable.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if it happens in January and not late 2017 with effective date in January 2018. They'll have to surprise the electorates between 2017 and 2018 in order to steal our mandate again. Nigerians should expect largesse starting from next year because they must be zombified again in 2019. The only way to tell these wicked leaders that we own the power is to vote them out again in 2019 irrespective of what surprise they spring between next year and upper one or irrespective of what promise was kept or unfulfilled. We have gone through enough hardship and several lives have been lost to think they will change after 2019. When they are voted out like their predecessors, they will know Nigerians have wised up and it's no longer business as usual.
