rubbie:

well you have all mentioned very good certifications but concerning the acca and ican dispute, agreed acca is recognized internationally but do u realize it is not accepted in the strongest country of the world, USA, u have to write the american CPA to be recognized, and besides acca came up with a new rule that u need to have a performance evaluation of 3 years before u can be certified, thats crap as far as im concerned, and besides be proud to be a champion locally, so ill still put ICAN among the top certifications

that's why it's called AMERICA!

marosky:

mustay it is as if u o r someone close 2 u has failed ican a couple of times.i have friends working with ican abroad.ican is globally recognised.it is true that cpa and acca are more globally recognized.if u don't like ican u can consider anan then you will know that 'khaki no be leather'

no be so o! wink

last month, ICAN officials met with some Int'l institutes to see how ICAN can meet Int'l requirements. The stuff there is that, ICAN needs to review its syllabus frequently in line with current events.

I am very skeptical about IT certifications because they are mainly product based and tend to loose value after a few years and the existence of brain dumps makess some of  these Certs virtually worthless. (How can a 11 year old kid get a Java certifcation.i know a couple of secondary school kids with MCSE and CCNA as well - this is ridiculous - )

At the end of the day professional exams are ment for who . . . . Professionals. not kids .

The moment anybody or everybody starts getting them. it becomes worthless
Re: Top Ten Professional Exams by Mustay(m): 6:00pm On Jul 25, 2008
But is there really anything wrong with those kids having it? undecided

times don change

Generally, the Internet institution has no set of rules; the more reason why Lawyers have problems with it.

Thats why these certifications are near worthless these days.

IT certifications are not professional certifications they are just worthless piece of paper showing that

you have been able to pass a brain-dumped test successfully

i don't think there is a general heihrachy in terms of proffesional qualifications. i believe the heihrachy is only relevant to your field of study (acca, ican for accountants, etc.)

meanwhile, for proffesionals in the finance and mortgage industry, i am thinkin of acquiring a certification in mortgage advice and practice (cemap). i was wondering if someone has an in-depth knowledge on this particular certification and the prsopects for someone with this certificate in nigeria.

I agree with this POV.
Professional certifications cannot be ranked side by side unless they happen to be in the same discipline. e.g ICAN and ACCA.
Then you can rank them mostly by demand. What makes a certification top rated is not the level of difficulty per se, but the demand, both nationally and internationally. Are employers everywhere asking for these certifications? That should be the primary reason for undertaking any certification, except if you are already in that industry, and want to exercise your brain, which is always a good thing, and will make your resume even look better.
Sorry I can't help with the mortgage certification thingie. If you're already working in that industry, why not research it and give it a shot?
It can never harm if you learn something new, or acquire a new qualification in your field.

It beaks my heart to see you guys being ripped off by these companies.

For anyone interested in CISCO certification I would recommend self study but you will have to be dedicated and disciplined.

How relevant is CIPM - chartered institute of personnel management- in the nigerian labour market?
Re: Top Ten Professional Exams by ofala(m): 3:51pm On Sep 23, 2009
Yea , you have to write the American CPA here but this is really not good enough. Maybe because of ASUU and their strike I may align with the Americans here if not , I wana say it unequivocally that from my experience here, if Nigerians have half opportunities people have here.Non will get close to Nigerians in the Career filed.

it amazing seeing lots of professional courses.it is of importance to note that all professional certification r important, depending on the sector u r working or desiring to work with.i ve had opportunity to work in a company were almost every bd had one certification or the other.it was really great.upon employment u do not need further tranning becos u already know wat to do.Personally i ve Chosen the IATA certification and i ve written the exam just this month. The IATA (international air travel association) certification is the World's recognised exam for the travel and airline industry.it really kool.so if u want to work in an airline of ur choice and want to earn big, then think IATA wink wink wink
