Immigration To Hike Price For International Passport by wexyee: 11:15pm On Dec 14, 2016
ABUJA— The cost of acquiring a Nigerian international passport is set to rise in the next
couple of days, as the Nigeria Immigration
Service, NIS, yesterday, said it had commenced
the process to review its charges. According to the service, it is no longer
possible to produce the passports at the
current rates. Comptroller-General of the NIS, Mr. Muhammad
Babandede, disclosed this at the flagging off
ceremony for the capacity building
programme on Information Communication
Technology, ICT, for Immigration officers,
organized in conjunction with Huawei Technologies Company, in Abuja. The ICT training programme, according to
Managing Director, Abuja Office of Huawei
Technologies, Mr. Tank Liteng, is part of its
Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR, and had
been carefully designed for 500 staff of the NIS
for a period of five days in batches of 50 officers per training time at nine different
locations across the country. Liteng expressed optimism that the
programme would empower officers of the
NIS with appropriate ICT skills, awareness and
soft skills that give competitive advantage
globally to catch up with the world trends,
change Nigeria into the ICT talents centre of the region and the world. Commenting on the plans to hike the charges
for the issuance of the Nigerian passport,
Babandede, who did not disclose the take-off
date for the new charges, stated that the NIS
had written to the Presidency on this issue,
and as soon as it receives approval, it would proceed with the review, which would also
enable it to deliver better services. He further warned that if the prices were not
reviewed, its revenue to the country would be
negatively affected. He said: “It is not easy for us to pay for
booklets because of the cost. You will agree
with me that air tickets have doubled in this
country. You are aware that a lot of things
have changed, but the passport fees have not
changed. www.vanguardngr.com/2016/12/poly-teachers-threaten-industrial-action-over-bsc-hnd-dichotomy/

This government like every other government before it is operating very Nigerian like.

The cost Nigerians pay for passport as it is at the moment is twice the official cost anyways.

So the question is are those in authority going to claim no knowledge of the current extortion going on?

Why not clean up the process before hiking fees.

Governance should be better than this unfortunately once again or better to say as always Nigerians are holding the short end of the stick.

bunch of idiots and fools killing the economy of this country.

Salt and sugar price rose in an european country, pple rose to fight it. But not in this country.

What has price of air tickets has to do with price tree pulps to make papers.

What is the Government Official cost and Your men's un-official price in every nook and cranny , Agodi Gate in Ibadan and else where.

I trust, your request will receive approval fast fast and even already received so far money to enrich your pockets is in involved.

I really weep for my country Nigeria. Last time I went to the NIS passport office at Ikeja, I discovered the price of the normal e-passport was 28500 naira as against 17500 on their notice board. When you get there, they will even ask you if you want "express" or "normal" process. if you say express, they tell you its 35000 naira. if you say normal, they tell you it is 28500 naira and that it will take one month to process as against the four days of processing written on your given slip after applying.

And now their oga wants to hike the already exorbitant fees. If after about 2 years of Buhari being in power and corruption in the civil service is still like this, then he has failed woefully.
