TOPIC: MAINTAINING THE COURAGEOUS /CONVICTION /OUR COMMITMENT IN A CORRUPT COMMUNITY. REVELATION 2:12-17.
Praise the Lord, I welcome you to our Sunday Worship, I pray that it'll be real worship from your heart, it'll be real worship from your Spirit, so we can worship in truth and in Spirit and the Lord will bless the worship and bless you for worshipping Him aright IN Jesus Name Amen.
Today we are coming to a special letter that the Lord has written to the church, in fact at the end of the letter, He says he that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit Spirit saith to the church. Think about it this way, if the Lord were to write a letter to you, if the Lord were to send a message from Heaven to you, what message do you think He'll be sending to you? The one He sent to the church in Ephesus or will it be the one He sent to the church in Smyrna, or will it be the one that He sent to the church in Pergamos, it might be the one He sent to Thyatira, or the one He sent to Sardis, or the one He sent to Philadelphia, will He be sending to you the message He sent unto the church of Laodicea, think about that, and if the Lord were to send a message to you from John the Beloved, from the Apostle, how will you receive the message? Let's look at that today.
Here is a message He sent to the church of Pergamos, if He were to talk to you, He'll be talking to you the same thing because the Lord JESUS Christ is Omniscient, He knows everything about you, He knows everything about me, He knows everything about the church and He knows everything about everyone, and He is still saying today that, He knows your works, He says but but He have a few things against them, because they hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam. As the Lord is speaking to us, and He says "But", there's something wrong. Here now He wants to correct whatever is wrong so that we will be ready for Him by the time He comes, and if the Lord speaks to you, would you wants Him to be directive and tells you the exact situation? Your spiritual situation or would you be offended how should the Lord talk about that or maybe you're not referring to God, but you're referring to John. John was not saying whatever he wants to say, it was what the Lord has given to him and he wrote to this church, sometimes somebody can get offended when the word of God is direct anything coming to us, is a Spirit of God, And He says he that has an ear to hear should hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. And you don't want your pastor to abandon the word of the Spirit and the word of the Saviour and the word of our Supreme God, and then to tell you of His own mind and not to allow the sharp sword to come upon you, and so the Lord said unto this church, unto the minister in the church in Pergamos, and the Lord says, but I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication. And then He's calling them back to come back to where they ought to be, so that all the things that were wrong, all the things that brought controversy against the Church, against the minister, against the members, all those things can be totally removed. And then He says, repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth. When we believe in Him, when we are obedient to Him, when we are living by Grace, and when we we living by Faith and we are living in righteousness, we see His love, we see His compassion, and we see His goodness and we see the promises of God been fulfilled, but when we go astray, when we allow corruption, when we allow evil and when we allow the works of the flesh to be manifested in us, without any control, without any restrain, He says He will come quickly and fight against them with the sword of His mouth. And then He says, he that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it. You know the Lord always finish with that condition, whatever the condition of the church, whatever the situation of the church, He says we can make amends, He says we can repent, He says we can turn around, He says we can renew our lives, He says we can renew our commitment and we can become overcomers. If we have gone into error, if we are backslidden, we don't have to remind in that backslidden condition, in that backslidden position, we can overcome and so He's writing to everyone of us and He says to him that overcometh will He give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.
POINT ONE: THE CONSUMMATE COMMANDER AND CONQUEROR, THE PREEMINENT CHRIST. REVELATION 2:12. Christ is Preeminent, He has conquered death, He has conquered devil, He has conquered the world, He has conquered everything, He's the Preeminent Christ.
The Church in Pergamos must have been surprised because you see John was imprisoned he was incarcerated, he was far away and yet he knew the details of the condition of every church he was writing to, it wasn't his knowledge, it was revelation from the Lord Jesus Christ the head of the church unto him. And so those revelations without doctoring them, without editing them, without adjusting them, without making them more acceptable and smoothened them, he gave the message as the Lord has given unto him, that was a faithfulness of John and that's the faithfulness of every ministers that as the Lord gives us the message, we don't examine it and say this is not smooth, this is not going to be acceptable, some people are going to frown, that shouldn't make you to adjust the message, John the beloved kept the message the way the Lord has given him, and if you're a minister, and you're a preacher, you're an overseer and you're leading the people of God, that's the way He want you to deliver the message. You read your Bible, you read the word of God, and you give the right interpretation and the proper application of the word of God. Don't smoothen the message Christ has given.
I. The Sharp sword conquering all adversaries. Revelation 2:12; Numbers 22:22-23,31-34; Deuteronomy 32:40-41; 2 Chronicles 20:9; Revelation 2:16. When Balaam came out of his place he wanted to go and meet Barak, and the Lord sent an Angel with a sharp sword, the Angel eventually said, he would have killed him with the sword in his mouth, the sword is a sword of Judgment against adversaries and the Angel of God came as an adversary against Balaam because he disregarded the word of God. And the same thing you find in all the word of God, Jesus Christ said He will fight against those corrupters, He will fight against those evil people, He will fight against the people that are bringing false doctrine, erroneous doctrine, damnable doctrine, doctrine of devil into the church that has purchased with His own blood. Now we are the people standing for Christ, we are under the Shepherd, we are the preachers under the Preeminent Christ, and we still have the same word of Christ, in fact He days we should go into all the world and teach them all things, whatsoever He has commanded us, and when we speak that word faithfully, and the spirit of God takes that word from our mouth, and He convince the unbelievers and He convince the people who are to repent, that's the sword He's referring to.
II. The Spirit's Sword Convicting through the Anointed. Ephesians 6:16-17; Hebrews 4:12-13; John 8:7-11; Jeremiah 23:29; Acts 2:37-42. Jesus Christ called us, He chose us and then He anointed us with the Holy Ghost, He empowers us with the Holy Ghost and He makes the word of God convicting from our mouth. The word of God is alive, is dynamic and He says His word is powerful, that means is mighty, the word of God pierces, it convict and He says that word of God is sharper than any two edges sword, piercing and even it's a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart, that sword is the word of God coming out of the mouth of an anointed preacher, coming out of an anointed minister, coming out of an anointed evangelist, and coming out from an anointed soul winner. He says as that word comes out, it will discern the thoughts of the heart, and the intends of the heart and the plan and the project and the imagination of the heart. Is the word of God that brings conviction.
Jesus Christ was speaking to the Pharisee who caught a woman in the very act of adultery, they brought the women to Jesus, and they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. Actually these Pharisees only brought this woman caught in adultery before Jesus, they didn't brought the man that committed adultery with her, and it takes two to commit adultery, it takes two to commit fornication but they brought only the woman to Jesus, but Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. Here is the anointed word of JESUS that will bring convictions, what Jesus Christ was saying is an interpretation of the word that said, all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God, and from that, Jesus said why were they pretending as if though they were not sinners?
So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. Obviously, whatever He wrote on the ground will not contradict with the word of His mouth, you see there are people that contradict themselves, and when they see what they have said is convicting, what they are now writing will balance it up and smoothing it all, and it will not bring the same conviction. When JESUS Christ wrote on the ground, the same thing He has said, similar things He has said that will bring convictions upon the sinners, that they will know that all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God. And when these Pharisees heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. That's what the word of God is suppose to do, the word of God is piercing sword, is sharps sword, these Pharisees were convicted of what they heard from Christ, but they didn't do the right thing, the conviction should led them to fall down at the feet of the Lord Jesus Christ, but instead of allowing that sword to pitch them, to convict them and drive them to Christ, it drove them away from Christ. The word of God has an effect on everyone, but that woman was also convicted because she was a sinner like all the others, but she didn't run away, she stayed right there asking for mercy of God, accepting the mercy and accepting the forgiveness of God. When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
We became children of God by Grace and by the mercy and by the love of God, if you stay with Christ when the conviction come, when He brings your corruption to your remembrance, if you will stay like that woman and then get the Grace from Christ and mercy from Christ, He will forgive you and He will change your life, He will turn your life around. When you come to Christ, when you don't run away, when you don't carry your guilt and your condemnation and then run away and allow your guilt and your condemnation to be following you like a shadow, when you stay there for the mercy of God, He will forgive you and set you free. Whatever Jesus Christ said is what the Father is saying, and the Holy Ghost will never contradicts JESUS and what the Father is saying the Holy Ghost will say and what the Heavenly Father has said, what Christ has said, what the Holy Ghost has said, is what the Angels will say because there's Joy in the presence of those Angels, Angels will rejoice in the presence of God because of that one sinner that have been forgiven.
Satan cannot contradict effectively whatever Christ has said, if Christ forgives you and then the Father affirms that, and the Holy Ghost affirms that, and Angels rejoice, because of that , devil has no choice and then your conscience when God forgives, He will bring peace to your conscience and your conscience will be at Peace, that sword of the word of God when it comes to impenitent, the repentance, that sword will drive us to Christ and Christ will give us salvation, Peace of mind and He will gives us freedom. III. The Strong Sword Consuming The Antichrist (s).
Isaiah 27:1; Daniel 7:26; 8:25; 11:45; 2 Thessalonians 2:8-9; Revelation 2:16; 19:15-16,19-21. The word of God is great and strong, and this strong sword will consume this personality, the crooked serpent and the dragon and the Antichrist. When Christ actually comes back at the end of the great tribulation, after Antichrist have been tormenting people, after Antichrist have been putting people into bondage, the Lord will come and consume and destroy that crooked Antichrist
When Antichrist comes, he will cause deception, he will cause flattery, he will cause craft to prosper in his hand. But Christ shall destroy him, no sword in the hand of Christ, but the word of His mouth will break him down and it will destroy him and consume him. The word of Christ, the declaration of Christ and the utterance in the mouth of Christ will destroy the Antichrist, and with that sword in His mouth, He will also destroy all the people that have accepted the mark of Antichrist, and they are following after Antichrist whatever group they might belong to, when Christ shall comes, He will come with the sharp sword of His mouth and He will consume all those nations. He's the Preeminent Christ, He's the King of kings and Lord of lords. What are the Prescriptions of Christ? ✔️ He's the Conqueror. ✔️ He's the Preeminent. ✔️ He's the Prevailing Christ. ✔️ He's the Consummate Commander. ✔️ He's the King of kings. ✔️ He's the Lord of lords. ✔️ He's the One that says He's dead but He's Alive.
POINT TWO: THE CONDEMNATION OF CORRUPTION IN A POLLUTED CHURCH. REVELATION 2:14-16.
What do you think of Christ who died to take our sins away? What do you think of Christ who died so that every form of evil, every form of corruption, will be totally taken away and He sees that corruption now flowing back unrestrained, unchecked and uncontrolled into the church that He died for. What do you think of Christ who is coming back again, and when He comes back again, He wants to see a glorious church, a Holy Church, a Righteous church, a Purified church, and then He sees corruption, what do you think He will say? He will not appreciate the corruption. Remember the word of the Lord Jesus Christ after introducing Himself as the One that has sharp sword proceeding out of His mouth, now wants to talks to the church of Pergamos, He says, He have a few things against them, because they hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication. So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate. And then He says, repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.
Do you wait enough after the message that the Lord Himself will tells you what to do, not only what He told the Church in Pergamos, and all those churches. Do you wait long enough for the Lord to speak to your spirit? He says yes you're born again, yes you're disciple and following after Him, but don't go yet, He says He has a few things against you, and those few things He wanted them corrected, He wants them repented of, and He says to those leaders, and not only to the ministers, He talks to the members of the church as well, everyone that claim they belong to Him, He says, but I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication. You have them there that holds the doctrine of Balaam those who are backsliders were teaching, they were teaching what will make other people backslide and the minister Just turned a blind man to the congregation in the church of Pergamos. If you allow backsliders to teach the People, their message will poison the people we are trying to Nurture, build up and keep healthy.
I. The Condemnation of the Doctrine of Balaam. Revelation 2:14; Numbers 31:16; Jeremiah 28:15-16; 29:31-32.
This is Christ condemning the Doctrine of Balaam, you see there are people that will say they want to be a positive preacher, a positive pastor, and they will never talk against occultism, compromising, fleshly lust etc... In their preaching, they will always talk about positive things and positive utterances and positive communication and positive attitudes, but Jesus Christ mentioned the negative things going on in the church in Pergamos and He condemned the doctrine of Balaam. These people that were teaching what balaam taught, what did you think about them? If somebody is rarely Born again, if somebody is a real child of God and he's called into the ministry and he has not had any contacts with false doctrine of balaam for 20 years, he has even forgotten how can he now teach, you see there are people they do not make themselves forget and cut off completely all those doctrines of Balaam, all those evil things that they use to do, the works of the flesh, the ideas of idolatry, the ideas of the fornication, the ideas of the adultery, if you have not be conversant with that, you cannot practice that so easily, now you have forgotten how you use to sin, how you use to do evil and how you use to compel people, how you attracts other people into evil, how you attracts other people into immorality, how you seduce other people into immorality, but you know these people they are backslidden, and they have forgotten everything they were learning in the New life, as a new conviction coming upon them, all that they have forgotten, all they can remember now is how to teach, how to put stumbling block before believers, and how to eat the servants of God to do things sacrificed to idols, and to commit fornication and the Lord condemned that, and the Lord is still condemning that today because is the doctrine of the devil, that's what the devil wants, devil wants people to backslide and he wants people to go to the old life of sin.
II. His Contempt for the Deeds of Backsliders. Revelation 2:15-16; Jeremiah 5:28-31; John 3:19-20; Acts 19:18-19.
If you know the pastor in the church of Pergamos, you will pity him, Why will you pity the pastor in the church of Pergamos? ✔️because he was labouring and labouring. ✔️ he will preach. ✔️ He will plan. ✔️ he will distributes palliatives. ✔️ he will encourage people. ✔️ he will plan personal evangelism. ✔️ he will plan massive evangelism. ✔️ he will plan crusade. ✔️ he was active. ✔️ he was fervent.
In all these good characters of the Pastor in Pergamos, the only thing is, he was labouring for the wind because everything he tried to do, bringing people to salvation, bringing people to sanctification, planning Crusade and baptizing people in water, he was a busy minister and active minister, and he was an occupied minister, But there were people there that had the doctrines and the deeds of Nicolaitans, and they were injecting that into various session of the church and the minister care nothing for them, he kept on labouring, are you a preacher, are you an Evangelist, and you're out and out everywhere, you're occupied life minister, you're devoted to activities, like the pastor in the church of Pergamos, he was an active minister, but in those activities,.but in all the kind of strength and power, jumping up and jumping down, and crossing river, using everything to get everywhere, he doesn't look at the congregation, and there were people backsliding and going away from the Lord, and they are going away from under the word of God, and yet he kept on labouring, why don't you stop a minute? Why don't you stop a moment? And then look at what Christ is saying, and Christ says, although you're busy, although you're occupied, but the heart of Christ is against him because of the people that are bringing erroneous teaching and even the doctrines and the deeds of the Nicolaitans. That was the reason why Christ was against the pastor in Pergamos.
III. The confirmation of their Damnation with Burning. Revelation 2:16; 16:9; 19:20-21; Isaiah 33:12-14; 34:9-10; Revelation 14:10-11; 20:10; Hebrews 9:27; 10:27-31.
Here is the confirmation of their damnation with burning, the Lord says repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth. Repent means: you're driving, but you're driving on the wrong road, you're driving in the wrong direction, you're driving to get to heaven, but that's not the way to heaven, you're driving so that you will make it at the rapture, but the way you're driving, the path you're following is not leading to that destination of the Rapture, and He says repent, what do you do? You stop, you turn around, you look at the road maps again, repent and see what the Lord says, He says He's against you, then you look at the havoc, you look at the evil and you look at the damage that those disciples of Balaam had done in your local church, then you repent and you look at the damage, you look at the havoc that those followers of Nicolaitans have done in your local church, repent means stop, hold on and then when you stop, you now say this is what to do and whatever you will do by preaching again, not the usual preaching you have been doing that didn't catch any of those backsliders, but the preaching that you will preach will rescue people from damnation and burning in the final day, and then you have to intercede for them, you have to counsel them, you have to reverse all the influence and the effects of the doctrines of Balaam and of the doctrines of Nicolaitans in their mind.
Maybe you're not a minister, maybe you're just a regular member of the church, but Christ wants you to be a converted member, a consecrated member, a committed member, He wants you to be a member that will follow after the way of God and after the word of God. Be a member that will live in Holiness and righteousness all the days of your life. Be a member that will make you to see that you're committed to the Lord Jesus Christ, if you're followed after all those people that influenced you to follow after the doctrines of Balaam, to eat things sacrificed to idols and to commit fornication and now you know that you're a real sinner, you're blatant sinner, and you're a dirty sinner, you're a defiled sinner because of the influence of false doctrine upon your life, the Lord is calling upon you to repent or else He will come to you, He will come to a compromising member, He will come to a backsliding member, and He will fight against you with the sharp sword in His mouth.
He calls us to repentance because if there's no repentance, there's going to be Judgment at the end of life. He says and as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment. Whether the man is a minister or just a member, whether the woman is a worker or leader or just a member of the church, it's appointed to everyone, once to die but after this the Judgment. If you follow after the corruption of Balaam and Nicolaitans, He says there's going to be fiery indignation and Judgment, if anyone trample on the word of God, and follow after the way of Balaam, all those that brings the doctrines of Balaam, all those that teach the erroneous waste of balaam, He says the Lord shall Judge them. All the people that will contradicts the righteous teaching of Christ and they will teach what Christ hates, He says the Lord shall Judge His people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
POINT THREE: THE CONSECRATION AND COURAGE OF PREVAILING CHRISTIANS. REVELATION 2:13,17
Prevailing Christians are the people that will rise up and say they will correct whatever is wrong, they will cleanse all the works of the flesh and they are going to be free and they are going to live the way Christ wants us to live, and the way Christ will be happy with. The Lord brings us to prevailing consecration and courageous Christian's life, those who prevails, and those who say whatever other do, I must stand by the word of God, others may, but I will not, others may but I cannot, others may but I must not. In conclusion, the Lord tells the church and the Lord is telling the church in conclusion, the Spirit of God is telling everyone who has come, everyone hearing that has ears to hear.
I. The Praise for Courageous Heroes. Revelation 2:13; 3:8,10; Daniel 3:15-18; 6:10; Acts 5:18-21,28-29; 2 Timothy 4:7; Hebrews 11:27-28. ✔️ Antipas was an Hero. Even where Satan is manifesting Authority, where Satan is manifesting brutal authority, where Satan is manifesting crushing authority, even though Satan was there, occultism was there, even though satanic witches were there, even though Ephrod worship was there, yet this man held on to the Name of Christ, he was in the midst of corruption, he was in the midst of the crushing power of the devil, he will still stand, in spite of persecution, in spite of contradiction, in spite of error, in spite of defilement, he's like a white lily growing out of the dirty mod and yet remained white and righteous and Holy. ✔️ that reminds us of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, that told Nebuchadnezzar never to bow down to his idols. ✔️ it reminds us of Daniel, the decree was made that nobody should prayed in the Name of God in Heaven for 30 days, and they said whosoever disregards the decree of the king will be throw into the den of lions, and Daniel went ahead and he always did consistently and courageously and he prayed in the Name of God in Heaven. Those are the heroes. ✔️ it reminds us of People like Paul the Apostle that will stand on the word of God. ✔️ like Peter, like John, when the enemies of the Gospel instructed them and commanded them that they will not speak in the Name of Christ, and those people, Peter, Paul and John and the rest of the Apostles, they answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. And they said they cannot do without preaching the word of God. ✔️ it reminds us of Moses, he wasn't fearing the rod of the king, he wasn't fearing the brutality or the cruelty of the king, he wasn't fearing the persecution of the king or the sword of the king.
Those are the heroes and the Lord want to make you an heroe today, an hero that will take to the word of God, and stand in the word of God, if you cannot be a hero in the Army of the world, you cannot be a hero in the politics, in sports, you can be an hero in the Kingdom of God, and you can stand firm on the word of God, not compromising, and whatever the wind that might be blowing, and whatever challenges might be around you, dare to say here I stand, the Grace of God, the strength of God, the Spirit and the Power of the Holy Ghost can make an heroe out of you.
II. The Practice of Commendable Hearers. Revelation 2:17; Matthew 13:9,23; Mark 4:23-24; 7:16-17; John 5:24; Luke 11:28; James 1:22,25.
That's why JESUS Christ said, he that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it. That's the practice of a real hearer, that's the practice of a commendable hearer, when he is coming to the church, he will tell God to speak to him, those people that correct their errors are the people that are hearers, those who are willing to bring up all the consecration they had before, they are the hearers. And Jesus Christ said, take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given. For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath. When you hear the word of God and He says unto you repent, you will take heed and repent. When He says obey, you will take heed and you will obey. When He says believe, you will take heed and you will believe, when He says correct something, you will take heed and you will correct and walk in the narrow path, and then bring back your consecration, bring back your first love, bring back the first Faith and bring back the first works and you will do that.
III. The Promise of Concealed Heritage. Revelation 2:17; 1 Corinthians 2:9; Hebrews 11:16.
Jesus Christ says, he that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it. ✔️ He says to him that overcometh, he overcomes all those erroneous preachers who are following Balaam. ✔️ He says to him that overcometh, he overcomes all the seducers coming from the camp of Balaam. ✔️ He says to him that overcometh, he overcomes all the temptations coming from Delilah. ✔️ He says to him that overcometh, he overcomes all the temptations coming from Samson. ✔️ He says to him that overcometh, he overcomes the works of the flesh. ✔️ He says to him that overcometh, he overcomes all the degradation and the defilement of the world. ✔️ He says to him that overcometh, he overcomes the contradicting doctrine of Nicolaitans. ✔️ He says to him that overcometh, he overcomes his own propensity. ✔️ He says to him that overcometh, he overcomes his own tendencies. ✔️ He says to him that overcometh, he overcomes his own weaknesses. ✔️ He says to him that overcometh, she overcomes her own predicaments. ✔️ He says to him that overcometh, she overcomes everything and all things her mind, her life, her heart tendency to the things that will make her fear, that will make her fall and yield to temptation.
When they ate manna in the wilderness in those days, it was something obvious, it fell on the ground and everybody could see, but now He says when you overcome, and He comes back again, He will give us the manna, not the common manna that everybody can see, and tell, this will be peculiarly for you, this will be particularly for you, when He comes back again, and He examines our lives, He looks at our lives and we are totally purged ourselves from everything that brings defilement and He says there will be no judgement anymore and He gives us that Justification, He will give you a new name because of the New nature and because of the New victory that you have, and because of the New conquering power you have, and you're not among the people who are compromisers, you're not among the people who are nonchalant, who are corrupted and corrupting other people, you abstain clean, by the Grace of God, by the cleansing of the Blood of the Lamb, if you have received Christ, you're going to receive reward, if you have received the message of Holiness and righteousness, you're going to receive reward, and the Lord is saying, this is the time that we will examine ourselves, as He has spoken to the church in Pergamos, He's writing to you, and He's speaking to you, He's saying, look at what to be corrected, He's saying look at what to adjust, he's saying, look at what to cleanse, He's saying, look at what to consecrate, He's saying look at what to come back to and repent and renew your consecration and repent and restrain yourself from those people coming from Balaam, coming from Nicolaitans, and coming from the world. He says you renew your commitment unto the Lord and then this promise will come to you on the final day, even the promises is going to be fulfilling in your life, even today and in the day to come, He will be with you, He will never leave you, He will never forsake you and His strength and His Glory and His Grace and His power and His might will be with you and for you forever. You need to come to the Lord now, remember He has spoken to you and if you have ears to hear, you will take heed to what He said, you will take that to the Lord in prayer and say, Lord I thank you for the word you have spoken to me. *** BE YE DOERS OF THE WORD***.
09/08/2020 THE HEAVENLY PATTERN OF GODLINESS FOR RAPTURABLE SAINTS Titus 2:7-10; Hebrews 8:5,6; Acts 3:22; 1 Corinthians 9:25; 11:2; Ephesians 4:15; Colossians 3:20,22,23; 1 Timothy 3:11; 1 Peter 4:11
God has given us a heavenly pattern of godliness to follow in order to remain rapturable. As new creatures in Christ who have been transformed by the Spirit of God, the blood of the Lamb, His word and the personality of Christ, we are to show ourselves a pattern of good works “IN ALL THINGS." The Lord wants us to leave no part of our behaviour, character or lifestyle to chance, personal or societal preference.
As we begin our Christian journey with salvation and progress towards maturity and mastery, we must be “temperate in all things”, controlled and guided by the Spirit of God. As such, leaders in the church must influence their listeners by “speaking the truth in love, [that they] may grow up into him in all things”. In all things, children (without age limit) must obey their parents, servants their masters, and wives must be faithful. Saints who have tasted of God’s grace must live according to His will “that God in all things may be glorified."
1. THE GODLY PATTERN FOR CONVERTED SOULS IN ALL THINGS Titus 2:7,8
Shepherds are to lead by example and show a godly pattern for the children of God to follow. They do these in three ways:
(i). Incorruptible doctrine for saved souls Titus 2:7; Deuteronomy 32:2-4; Matthew 7:28,29; Acts 2:40-42; 1 Timothy 4:6,15,16; 6:3-5; 2 John 1:9-11
The people in Christ's day were “astonished” at the incorruptibility, sincerity, life transforming power and convincing nature of His doctrine. The doctrines we believe and hear, as the leaders set the example, must be incorruptible. As Christ laid the example, His apostles followed suit and became patterns of incorruptible doctrine. Likewise, preachers and pastors must “Take heed unto [themselves], and unto the doctrine; [and] continue in them."
(ii). Indisputable demonstration of selfless sincerity Titus 2:7; 1 Corinthians 5:7,8; 2 Corinthians 1:12; 2:17; Philippians 1:10,11
Christ wants us to be sincere from the depth of our hearts. The pastor must demonstrate selfless sincerity in order to lay down a godly pattern for every member to follow. His family, comportment and conduct must be a godly pattern. In addition, he must be sincere with himself, the Scriptures, the Saviour and almighty God in his commitment, utterances and consecration.
(iii). Inculcated dedication to sound speech Titus 2:8; Colossians 4:6; 2 Corinthians 3:12; Ephesians 4:29,30; Matthew 12:34-37
The dedication of pastors, shepherds and leaders must be inculcated into the rest of the members. The minister must commit himself to “Sound speech, that cannot be condemned." ‘Sound’ in the original translation means ‘healthy’. He must promote health through his emotion and utterances. Speech reveals our lives because “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh." We identify a child of God through his converted speech and utterances. He will not hurt others by what he says. “Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man."
2. THE GUIDING PATTERN FOR CIVIL SERVANTS IN ALL THINGS Titus 2:9,10a
Servants are exhorted “to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things." Civil servants are to serve, obey rules and do the work the way it ought to be done. They are to be at their best and be productive. The masters, on the other hand, should dictate the rules, supervise, set goals and direct servants in a way that brings maximum benefit to the place of work. While masters are to remain faithful to their responsibilities, servants are to be obedient and please them well in all things. There are three things to note here:
(i). Blameless faithfulness in civil service Titus 2:9; Ephesians 6:5-8; Colossians 3:22-25; 1 Timothy 6;1,2; 1 Peter 2:18-20
Faithfulness will help you, as a believer, to follow the right pattern in service. Whatever you do in your profession or occupation must be “with fear and trembling," and according to the will of God. You must also do your work “in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ" so that His will for your life and profession will be fulfilled.
(ii). Beneficial features in Christlike servanthood Titus 2:9b; Matthew 20:26-28; Luke 17:10; Romans 15:2,3; Philippians 2:3-5
Christians must emulate Christ's example of servanthood and do their work professionally, with proper knowledge and understanding, pleasing their masters well in all things. Masters should transfer their experience to servants by showing them the proper way to do things. Masters must show good example because they also serve.
(iii). Befitting fidelity without concealed stealing Titus 2:10a; Romans 13:9,10; Zechariah 5:3,4; Isaiah 61:8; Ephesians 4:27,28
“Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things”. People who steal give place to the devil in their career, life and destiny. As believers, we are not to steal our employer's time, tools, people, customers or treasure. Also, we must not do things that will erode the good work another person does in order to steal his position and authority in the workplace. We must do our work heartily and sincerely.
3. THE GLORIOUS PATTERN FOR CONSCIENTIOUS SAINTS IN ALL THINGS Titus 2:7,10
When conscientiousness, zeal and passion are lacking in other people, God can make you a star by letting your light shine and becoming a pattern of godly, glorious work “in all things." There are three things to note:
(i). Spirit-strengthened conscience admonished to glorify God Titus 2:7,10; Hebrews 9:14; 10:22; Romans 8:14,16; Philippians 1:10,11; Matthew 5:13-16
In everything you do, your goal must be to glorify God. In the community where you are, people should see your good intention, practice, skill, life and ministry, and glorify God. Saved and sanctified, the Spirit of God must bear witness in your heart that you are a child of God. As a conscientious believer, you must “let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven”.
(ii). Seared conscience addicted to godlessness 1 Timothy 4:2; 1:19; Titus 1:15,16; Ephesians 4:18,19; Micah 7:2,3; 2 Peter 2:22
A believer who is not careful might follow the people of the world who have “their conscience seared with a hot iron" and want others to be like them. They are people who were once committed to the faith with good conscience but have now backslidden and made a “shipwreck” of their faith. Christ warns us not to follow them but be sensitive to His will and Word at all times.
Saved and sanctified believers are shining examples. They make restitution of things done in the past, which were not according to the will of God. In our families and places of work, we must have a purified conscience that is passionate to do things rightly. Our conscience must not condemn us whether in the secret or open. To remain rapturable, we must “exercise [ourselves], to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men."
GOD'S GIFT OF A GOOD, GODLY FAMILY Genesis 2:18, 21-24; Proverbs 19:14; Matthew 19:4-6; Ephesians 5:28-33
The truth about the family is a foundational teaching in God’s word. At the beginning, God created only Adam. “And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him." He made the woman, a companion that would be suitable for the man. He instituted marriage and brought the man and woman together. The marriage union requires a man to leave his parents and “cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh." Christ also emphasised this truth when He was asked about marriage. He said, “What …God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." Religious and cultural practices that contradict this fundamental injunction are unscriptural.
1. HIS PREEMINENT PURPOSE FOR A GOOD, HELPFUL FAMILY Genesis 2:18; Proverbs 18:22; 19:14
To get the best in our marriage and family, our purpose must align with God’s. When we make God’s purpose preeminent in our family, it gives us the help, strength and progress that the Lord intended when He instituted marriage. The purposes of marriage identified from the word of God include:
God established the marriage union between a husband and a wife so that they could be of help to each other.
(ii) Perpetual Purity 1 Corinthians 7:2,9; Malachi 2:15
The Lord wants the church, community and world to be pure and righteous. Therefore, He commands “every man [to] have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband" to “avoid fornication" and adultery. Those who refuse to get married should understand that “it is better to marry than to burn."
(iii) Prevailing Power Ecclesiastes 4:9-12; Matthew 18:18,19
Always, “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour." If there is any challenge or situation that can overwhelm a partner, the “two[of them] shall withstand" it. Marriage allows couples to think and plan together. When they agree together in all they do, it helps and gives them prevailing power in prayer.
(iv) Pertinent Protection Genesis 20:16; 1 Peter 3:7
God's plan is to protect us through the institution of marriage. Through it, He gives us pertinent, present and perpetual protection.
At creation, the Lord blessed the man and woman, and proclaimed that they should be “fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth…" This is procreation, which means the process of creation. Marriage, therefore, is designed to continue the process of creation, reproducing children who would carry on with our legacy.
When children come into the world, they are helpless and cannot provide for themselves. It is parents' responsibility to feed, clothe, shelter, train, fellowship with and bring them up in the way they should go. Thus, would-be couples must ensure they get married to someone who has the same idea, understanding and doctrine concerning child training.
(vii) Participatory Pilgrimage Hebrews 11:7-13,23,27; 1 Peter 2:11; 3:1,7
As pilgrims, walking alone sometimes could be frustrating. But if we walk with a partner, when one gets tired, there is encouragement from the other person.
2. PERSONAL PREPARATION FOR A GODLY, HAPPY FAMILY Proverbs 24:27; Luke 14:28-30
We need personal preparation to build a godly, happy family. We shall consider three things here.
(i). Proper Relationship with the Lord 2 Corinthians 6:14-18; Matthew 12:49,50; 2 Corinthians 5:17; John 17:6,14-16; 1 John 1:5-7
God communes with those who have proper spiritual relationship with Him. Those who are not yet saved should repent because it is part of preparation for marriage. God promises to be a Father to us if we make Christ our Redeemer and Saviour. The proof of our relationship with the Lord is the transformation of our lives.
(ii). Prayerful Request from the Lord Proverbs 19:14; Jeremiah 29:11-13; Matthew 7:7-11; Proverbs 18:22; James 4:2-4; Ezekiel 14:6-10; 1 John 3:20-22; 5:14,15
A prudent, wise, uplifting, good, supportive and happy wife, who would make you progress in the direction God has earmarked for you, is from the Lord. To have such a wife, you must remove every idol from your heart and make your request known to Him in prayer.
(iii). Protective Righteousness before the Lord Proverbs 11:4-6; 12:28; Isaiah 54:17; 1 Corinthians 10:31; Romans 14:16-20; 1 Thessalonians 5:21,22; 1 John 2:15-17
Righteousness is the believer's protection. It protects from attacks, evil people and choices. We must “Abstain from all appearance of evil" and do all things to the glory of God.
3. PROGRESSIVE PARTNERSHIP IN A GROWING, HEALTHY FAMILY Ephesians 4:15,16; Romans 14:19
Marriage is God's gift through which we make progress in every area of life. It should also make our passion, devotion and love for the work of God to increase. We shall consider three things under this sub topic.
(i). Righteous Fellowship in a Gracious Home Ephesians 5:1-5,22-25,28-33; 1 Peter 3:1-13; 1 Corinthians 13:1-7; Philippians 2:3-5,14-16; 4:4-8; John 15:12,13
Righteousness in the family should make us to walk in love. To walk in love means we are transparent to our spouses in all things. It is being practical, sacrificial and selfless. We must “walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us." In a family where there is no vainglory or strife, and where each person esteems the other “better than themselves," the righteousness that keeps us in fellowship will be present.
God instituted marriage so we can help and keep each other company because loneliness is a problem. Thinking, living and doing everything alone is not good. At times, we need someone by our side to go through life with us; someone who can lift or lighten our heavy burden. Certainly, we need help; but not the kind we can get from neighbours, relatives, a child or parents. However, this help must be reciprocal.
(iii). Rapturable Faithfulness for a Glorious Heaven 1 Corinthians 15:19; Luke 20:34-36; Matthew 24:36-42; Luke 21:34-36; 1 Corinthians 15:51,52;1 John 3:1-3; Revelation 19:7-9
One of the reasons we marry is to help each other to run the Christian race successfully and make it to heaven. If all that marriage does for us is to have a good life only in this world, then “we are of all men most miserable." We must ensure we continue to encourage each other to be obedient to the word of God and endure till the end. As we desire to have a good, godly and gracious marriage on earth, so should we hope to have a good passage to glory when the trumpet sounds to be part of the Lord's Bride at His marriage supper.
