House of reps leader grants scholarship to 43 constituents

The Leader of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has expressed the readiness of the House of Representatives Special Committee on Constitution Amendment to grant autonomy to Local Governments in Nigeria in the ongoing amendment to the 1999 constitution.

In a statement released by his Media Assistant, Olanrewaju Smart on Friday , Gbajabiamila while responding to questions from representatives of Community Development Associations at an interactive session in his constituency bare his mind on national issues.

" We are working on the autonomy for local government in fact we passed it in the 7th Assembly but President Jonathan did not sign it. We are working on it again and there will be autonomy for local government. I know most of the Governors do not want it, not because they don't like it but truly if we look at true federalism there are only two tiers of government, local government is part of the state government but because it has been abused here in Nigeria that is why everyone seems to be in support of local government autonomy"

Gbajabiamila in his address also sought for the patience of his constituents on the state of the economy.

"Recession is affecting the top to the bottom, this government is doing its best. This recession is actually because Nigeria is no longer making money as it ought to . The oil came down from $100 to about $30 when this Government came in. Imagine you are a farmer and the head of the House with five children and you make 10,000 per month then all of a sudden a natural disaster occurred in your farm and you start making 2,000 Naira monthly. It means your family will have to adjust. Most importantly for us in government to cut excesses."

"Recession do happen in even advance countries, if you go to Venezuela you see people lining up on the streets begging for small bread or rice and Venezuela was once one of the biggest oil producing country in the world. But that does not mean the leader of the country must not take credit or otherwise for whatever is happening to the businesses, economy, and politics but I know we will get out of this(recession) as one country. "

The House Leader after highlighting his achievements in the House of Representatives promised to attract more federal presence to his constituency in 2017 and ensure that solar facilities he installed in the constituency work properly for the good of the constituency.

He also pledged to weigh in on the pending needs of members of his community through an academic scholarship for one student from each of the 43 Community Development Associations in the constituency.

The Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC), Mr Adebayo Balogun expressed gratitude to the senior lawmaker for his numerous interventions in the constituency while requesting for more assistance in the area of water supply and electricity.

The interactive session also had in attendance the Special Adviser to the Lagos Governor on Central Business District, Agboola Dabiri; Sole Administrators of Surulere LGA and Coker Aguda LCDA, Sherif Balogun and Tope Yusuf respectively; Chairman of All Progressives Congress in Surulere, Shakirudeen Ajao and representatives of 43 Community Development Associations in Surulere 1 federal constituency.

His statement is true and wise but I refuse to accept it since it was made by an afonja.
Afonjas spoils everything and when you do good to them they turn and stab you in the back just like awolowo did to ojukwu, onasanjo did to yaradua, oladipo diya did to abacha etc.
Afonjas are the problems of nigeria and themselves and even the British recognize this.
Just see what seal have done to Heidi Klum because she stopped so low as to marry a inferior people.
An afonja is meant to be a slave and they use to be good slaves to the whites in USA and Fulanis, binis and nupes in nigeria but anything outside that, they become useless since God created them to serve and not to lead and be equals with others.

Local government autonomy is long overdue, the state governors hijacked it so that they could steal and also dispense favours from the joint accounts, wat they won't take from the federal government, they force down the throats of the local government chairmen. ..

LG autonomy will only benefit the public if we get rid of the hooligans, former bus drivers and area boys who are typically LG chairmen and replace them with credible people. Imagine the havoc and looting when they are no longer accountable to governors?

No it doesn't... To the best of my knowledge it has to do with the local governments being independent of the state governments so as to improve their competitiveness.

The local government has always been autonomous under the 1979 constitution which it 1st appeared in. It is forcing the governors and bringing them to book for disobeying the constitution. Implementation is the problem, why must they operate joint accounts?

Just listen to the crap you put up there. afonjas are inferior yet the have the most industrialized, civilised, sophisticated region in Nigeria. Two Afonja states(Lagos and Ogun) tops in Nigeria in terms of productivity and value-creation cum largest GDP. Afonjas are all over the World making landmark achievements, bagging nobel prizes, excelling in their dignified endeavors and even breaking into American and European public technocracies.

You are here saying the obvious opposite. Well, no need to hurl insuts at you because you are an experimental model of how human beings can survive WITHOUT ACTUALLY USING THEIR BRAINS.

Is that all you have got upstairs?? I put it to you that I have duly wasted my time in the attempt to bring you to a mental self-sanitation and logical compromise.

Who are the native americans? Are they not the native indians who were conquered and consequently enslaved by the europeans, particularly the Spanish, portuguese and British. Are they the ones at the helm of affairs now?? No! Majority of the the red indians were fiddled out by the horrors of slavery, and since then, North America has gone through the process of whitenisation effected by the large influx of White Europeans. Ever wonder why the whites of European descent are the majority in the US.

What the SW is today is a product of creative ingenuity and administrative prowess of the Yorubas. We are still in control of our land and no one can take that from us.
