Have you ever wondered why some persons are so addicted to pornography and masturbation? Well, I think I might have an answer for you...

Until recently the brain was thought to be 'hardwired', their circuits formed and finalised in childhood. It has been discovered that brain can change due to a phenomenon called 'NEUROPLASTICITY' which works when the brain changes it response to repeated mental experience.
If a person watches porn or masturbate, the person tends to feel a sense of satisfaction which comes as a result of reward for the action done. This is where DOPAMINE(is a transmitter that plays a big role in that part of our brain that is responsible for REWARD-MOTIVATED behaviour) comes into play. The more you watch porn or masturbate, the more your brain becomes used to the effect of dopamine and the more the craving to keep having that feeling back. This then create a pathway in the brain.

According to research, the brain of a porn addict works like that of a drug addict as their "MISOLIMBIC" pathway lights up which is as a result of constant watching of porn or taking of drugs.

If a bush-path is often trampled upon it maintains it's clear path, but an abandoned bush-path becomes otherwise. This phenomenon works with the brain pathways; if an action is repeated, the brain becomes used to it and wanting to continue the action but if the action is abandoned for a long-time, the pathway diminish thereby closing up.

To stop this addiction, you might want to follow this principles,

1. Avoid solitude
2. Shy away from pornography
3. Stop thinking about masturbation
4. Get a pet
5. Be more social
6. Find someone you can confide in
7. Use a rubber band( anytime you're thinking of it, experiment hooke's law with the rubber band on your wrist)
8. Stop feeling guilty(over 95% of male and 85% of female can admit to masturbation)

Funny enough, this same mechanism in the brain that elicits porn addiction, is still the same that occasions and sustains what we call love. Actually, love is just a romanticized form of addiction.

Is love better than porn addiction? This would actually make for a good debate, and I'll debate against the motion. One of the points I'll raise is on the issue of death. How many people have died just because of love? The number is in millions. But how many people have died as a result of porn addiction? It's not even up to 0.1% of the number of people that have died as a result of love.

How about in the area of decision making? How many people have made silly, cataclysmically harmful decisions just because of love? Thousands of people. But how many people have made these same kind of noxious decisions as a result of porn addiction?

I could go on and on.

I have been an addict myself, and I will tell you that porn addiction or masturbation ain't good for the brain.... Love is crazy ( I agree), but it makes one feel more alive
