As of now, the forms are not out.

However, don't deal with non-school authorities to avoid wasting your resources.

Fun And Interesting Things To Know And Do In UNILAG

The University of Lagos, popularly known as Unilag, is a federal government research institution in Lagos state, and was established in 1962 by the Nigerian government.

Asides from being one of the most popular University in the country, and having produced dignitaries who have made the country proud due to its level of educational excellence, the University has its highlights, and much more, that makes it great and beautiful to explore.

This post will identify the interesting things that make Unilag a delight to experience, and hopefully, you can experience it too.

INTERESTING FACTS TO KNOW ABOUT UNILAG

Scholarships

Did you know that the University offers various scholarships to at least 500 students yearly with outstanding abilities? Yes, these scholarships are available to both undergraduate and postgraduates.
To get a postgraduate scholarship, one must be a graduate of the University of Lagos and must have obtained a Bachelor’s degree with at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division) or the equivalent.

Counselling Services
Unilag provides counselling units for students on various subject matters which include information about preparing your own curriculum vitae, seeking for job opportunities, helping students get immediate interviews and jobs after graduation, social and personal life, career and health.

Student Union Unit
This is a student activities’ unit which provides for students to be able to plan and resolve ideas and issues with student representatives, elections are organised for different activities and unions daily. Also, this unit also takes on the responsibility of assembling graduate students for National Youth Service Programme (NYSC).

The Work and Study Programme
The work and study programme (WSP) is a scheme created by the University, which allows the students work whilst also getting an education, and to enable students who lack the opportunity to get an education before working. This way, two birds are killed with one stone; the financial burden of handling academic expenses are reduced, and students can also get an early start in enhancing their business because of the large customer base at the university.

INTERESTING PLACES TO VISIT IN UNILAG

Unilag FM
This is the University’s first radio station 103.1 FM, as well as the first campus radio station in Nigeria. It is located at the mass communication department behind Afe Babalola hall. The station carries feeds of the school’s activities every morning, done by amazing student presenters.
Recently, falzthebahdguy, a popular Nigerian afrobeat artist, visited the station for an interview to mark its 15th anniversary. Unilag Fm is definitely a place to visit on campus to see how broadcasting is done or at least give it a listen because information passed are very helpful.

The Coffee Shop
Just like every other regular coffee shop, Unilag has one of its own where students can grab a cup of coffee, sit and chit chat with friends, have a quiet time by yourself, and it’s also perfect for formal meetings.

Lagoon Front
Oh, just thinking about the lagoon makes you want to get a dose of that fresh air and enjoy the waves that give you a moments’ peace of mind! Well, nothing’s stopping you now that you know the lagoon front is on Unilag’s campus. It is located behind the library which stretches down to the back of faculty of business admin to the left, and at the back of the faculty of sciences to the right.
The lagoon front is a good view to oversee the 3rd mainland bridge, and a nice spot to chill with your significant other.

The Adetokunbo Sofoluwe Park
The park was built in honour of the late vice chancellor, Adetokunbo Sofoluwe, who died while in office. It is located directly opposite the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs. The park is a cool hangout spot which can be used to study, chit-chat or just chill. However, what makes this park unique is that it has a charging spot directly under the Adetokunbo Sofoluwe statue, where students usually come to hang and charge their phones as well. Talk about having the best of both worlds.

The Senate Love Garden
If you need a nice romantic spot for a date with that special one, but need to keep it casual, then the Senate love garden is perfect. It is a serene environment especially in the evening, and is quite popular with Unilag students, as the name serves its purpose. Students also meet here to talk over assignments, and chill. Interestingly, the Senate love garden was seen used in various scenes of the popular Nigerian tv series ‘Shuga’.

2001 Café
The 2001 cafeteria is the biggest and most popular food joint in Unilag. It is located right at the heart of the university, called “new hall” which is directly opposite access bank. It is popularly known for the wide variety of African dishes cooked and served at the café, which is attested to by Unilag students.

So, when your tummy starts to rumble, you know where to find happiness.

If you know any other cool hangout spots in Unilag, you can share with us down below in the comment section.
