AGONY OF A CORPER
(Partially my experience)

I pledged to serve Nigeria my country
To Obey the clarion call of glory.
Thus, I was sent on a mission
To the North-Central of the nation
To exercise my patriotism
Amidst, the tribalism and terrorism
I obeyed with Espirit DE Corps
And Utmost enthusiasm

The gates of Magaji Dan - Ya musa orientation camp Keffi
Stared at me in pity and sorrow
For it knows what is in store for me
As I alight from d bus
Unwelcoming was the sun rays
That poured on my skin like hot coal
Instantly, I lost my freshness
Like hay dried up for ages
Oh! What have I gotten myself into?

Right in front of the gate of doom
Were heartless soldiers
Hungry Angry Man O war
Brutal police officers
Who subjected my tender soul and body
To three weeks of torture
O yes! They termed it drilling
Immediately I knew I was in for
A National Youth Suffering Course (NYSC)

They send us to remote villages
Where accessing clean water is a privilege
With no hope of electricity
No mobile signal for connectivity
Steadily monitored by ugly faces of hostility
So U won't break their girls virginity
And go into extinction
O yeah! So they said

Like the walls of Jericho
Their daughters fall in love with U
Like a thief at night
They sneak into your room
Like suckers for love
They preach their undying desire for U
Like a South-South boy U play along too
But Wary of the dangers and doom

Our blood now a medium for communication
When the thugs are in commotion
With the government of the nation
Or outcome of the election
They vent their anger on us
Because 'We be government pikin'

I pledged to serve motherland
Under the sun or in the rain
With dedication and selflessness
With much optimism and no pessimism
But the government and the people
Have made it seem impossible
