Simple question you can't answer.

Did Jonathan consult senate b4 deploying troop to Mali in 2013?
What is your fixation with Jonathan? Thought you guys said Jonathan was evil, therefore change was necessary. Must Buhari repeat the 'impunity and mistakes' of Jonathan? Then, where is the change?

Nigeria's national security is not under immediate threat or danger.

You know nothing about world politics.

With the current political stalemate in Gambia, NNS is under threat. Considering Nigeria's position in the African committee of nations, Nigeria cannot afford to 'sidon look'. Outbreak of war in Gambia will definitely affect Nigeria. No country, no matter how advanced she thinks she is, can stand alone.

All eyes are on Nigeria to handle the issue in Gambia precisely. Nigerian government did the right thing for the preservation of life and properties in Gambia

The president only exercised his powers under the above section of the constitution. Beside, did Jonathan consult the Senate before deploying troops to northern Mali in 2013?

Thank God for the Internet we all have access to the Nigeria Constitution.

‪"5-(1) Subject to the provisions of this Constitution, the executive powers of the federation‬
(a) shall be vested in the President
----------------
(4) Notwithstanding the foregoing provisions of this section-

(a) the President shall not declare a State of war between the Federation and another country except with the sanction of a resolution of both Houses of the National Assembly sitting in a joint session; and

(b) except at the prior approval of the Senate, no member of the armed forces of the Federation shall be deployed on combat duty outside Nigeria.

(5) Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection (4) of this section, the President, in consultation with the Nigeria Defence Council, may deploy members of the armed forces of the Federation on a limited combat duty outside Nigeria if he is satisfied that the national security is under imminent threat or danger;

PROVIDED that the President, shall within seven days of actual combat engagement, seek the consent of the Senate and the Senate shall thereafter give or refuse the said consent within fourteen days".

Bros, thanks for the post but does the constitution not give the President executive powers for emergency action?

Bridge of Nigerian constitution does not matter, because it is Buhari? Am not surprise with the state of our economy, it is the reflex of Buhari's intellectual backwardness.

@OP Nigeria did NOT declare WAR against Gambia, Nigeria only contributed our quota to ECOMIG troop. It is part of our obligation as ECOWAS member state.

This is not the first or second time that Nigeria will send contingents on foreign missions.

Please, I advice that you read on ECOWAS member state obligations.

Ignorance is not good

You re naive. Nigeria didnot declare any war against any country to that extent, your assertion doesn't apply. War ship was sent to evacuate our citizens incase the mad man in Gambia will. Start war. Senegal are spareheading the whole war rumor. They ve got capacity to deal with that man. How do you think 1000 soldiers will defeat ssenegal with more than 20k soldiers?

Nigeria's national security is not under immediate threat or danger.

We may not be under immediate threat but we may be under imminent threat in the short-run if nothing is done about it now.

Remember, Syria killings started with just one attack and it has escalated to a world problem. They are now burden and refugees in Europe and rest of the world.

Another reason is this, Nigerian Army train their army over there and if for anything the rest of West African forcefully gain and entrance into the Banjul and seize power from Jammel, it won't go with casualties. That will amount to effort in futility on the part of our Army.

Remember, there were rumours that the suicide bombers employed at the early stage of Boko Haram were from neighboring countries, hence, the need to support our fellow West African countries before it gets out of hand. One good turn deserves another. It could be us in crisis just like they rallied round us against Boko Haram.

With these few point of mine, i hope i have been able to convince and not confuse you that the situation in Gambia is worth our immediate involvement.

Thank you.

The entire section doesn't even apply.

Nigeria is not at war with Gambia, neither are our troops in Gambia as "Nigeria Armed Forces".

The troops are there as part of ECOWAS contingent for ECOMIG, which is part of our obligations to ECOWAS as member state.

Neither Jonathan (2013) nor Buhari (2017) did any wrong.
