FUNAI Matriculates Over 1,500 Students For 2016/17 by vickysomtee: 10:39am On Jan 27, 2017
This was made known by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba during the matriculation ceremony of the University held on Wednesday, 25th January, 2017.

The freshmen are the 5th set of students of the University. Unlike earlier matriculation ceremonies of the University, this year’s event was decentralized to faculties, with the Deans of Faculty overseeing the ceremony on behalf of the Vice Chancellor at their various faculties.

Addressing the new students, the Vice Chancellor stated: “To our freshmen, today’s matriculation ceremony marks your formal admission into the family of FUNAI- the Home of Soaring Eagles. By this event you have been officially admitted into the Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo

“You have earned a place at today’s matriculation because of your impressive grades and scores in both the Senior Secondary School Examinations and the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). You should be proud of this achievement. However, you should be humbled by the fact that only a little over 1,500 of you have been given this rare opportunity out of the nearly 9,000 candidates that competed for a place at FUNAI.”

The Vice Chancellor further charged the students to avoid all manner of campus attractions and face their studies squarely to avoid regrets at the end. “You have now been given the time and chance to study in this University. Do not misuse it. Embark on rewarding activities and avoid the so called campus attraction”, he said.

Prof. Nwajiuba noted that the University was geared towards equipping students with the right skills that would make them compete favourably with their peers anywhere in the world. He further stressed that the University has zero tolerance to cultism, examination malpractice, drug abuse, prostitution, sex and money-for-marks and other social vices, advising the students to mind their studies and be of good behavior if they intend to succeed in the University.

Calling on the freshmen to avail themselves of the University facilities, the Vice Chancellor advised them to make good use of the University’s library, laboratories, medical and sports centres in order to excel in their studies and for their total development and wellbeing.

The highpoint of the matriculation ceremony was an oath of loyalty by the freshmen to abide by the University’s rules and regulations and a pledge to appreciate and cherish her ideals, as well as the signing of matriculation register at their various faculties.
