Trump ’ s state visit that was started this morning has already smashed its target , having reached 266 , 132 as at the time of filing this report.Ordinarily , a petition can only attract the parliament’ s attention if 100 , 000 persons sign it.The petition was launched to say the US president should be allowed to visit the UK as a head of state , but that he shouldn ’ t have the full trappings of a state visit .It was started this morning by Canadian stage , film and television actor , Graham Guest , who lives in Los Angeles in the state of California ; and within a few hours, it reached the target of 100 , 000 signatures.
Any petition that reaches that landmark figure will be considered for debate in Parliament.
Anger against Trump has grown over the weekend after he signed an executive order preventing citizens from seven mostly - Muslim countries from entering the US .
However , the petition is aimed at Trump ’ s ‘ misogyny and vulgarity ’ , saying his behaviour disqualifies him from being received by Her Majesty the Queen or the Prince of Wales .
The US president accepted an invitation to visit Britain later this year , where he is due to be hosted by the Queen and would be treated to all the pomp and ceremony accorded to a state visit .
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn , Lib Dem leader Tim Farron and SNP foreign affairs spokesman Alex Salmond all called for the trip to be cancelled.
Theresa May finally condemned Trump ’ s decision to sign the executive order and said that she would intervene if British people were affected by the immigration ban.
