Below is a statement from the presidency;

Moved by the need to enhance affordability of food prices across country, the Buhari administration has constituted a Presidential Task Force to urgently consider measures that would ensure a steady flow of produce to the market and reverse recent price increases.

Giving the directive today at the Federal Executive Council meeting, Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, expressed concern at some of the inflationary rates of food prices, noting that the Task Force will explore options to promote availability and affordability of food items to Nigerians.

According to him, the Task Force, which has seven days from today to report back to the Council will consider how to remove some of the cost-raising factors that come into play between the farms and the markets and therefore "bring relief to our people."

While there have been reports of bumper harvests in parts of the country, the prices of food stuff still end up rather high, while some of the produce even end up wasted due to a number of reasons preventing effective transportation delivery to the markets.

One of the focus areas of the Task Force, the Ag. President noted, would be to review the transportation and preservation processes, and see how government can intervene in those aspects to bring down food prices.

The Task Force, which would be meeting with the Ag. President in the discharge of its urgent assignment, will therefore draw out a practical plan and present same to the Council next week.

Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun
Minister of Industry, Trade & Development, Dr. Okey Enelamah
Minister of Transportation, Honorable Rotimi Amaechi
Minister for Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman
Minister of Labour & Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige

The Offices of the Chief of Staff to the President and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, would also be on the Task Force.

my own task force has already proffered the solution and it's simply to open borders for free importation of food items.
you don't cut source before getting enough supply,we can only lock our borders when we are self dependent if not sufficient.

Nope. This method will never help us to produce locally. We need to suffer this first till it buffers up. Rome wasn't built in a day. If u open the borders, u will be doing more harm than good. We will never grow and we'l keep aving the influx of commodities which could av bn grown locally. there is difference between building Rome and building Nigeria...we cant continue to practice theoretical economics where policies only work on papers and imagination .policies of the government are not working,farmers don't get the allocated subsidies despite huge amount budgeted annually.
is 10years not long enough for an agricultural long run?,the lagos-kebbi rice I have not even seen a bag before so if I depend on that rice to feed,what will be my case.even the ppl that got the first batch would have finished it before the second batch rolls out.

Osibanjo has also lost his God-given mind.

Mr. Professor, it is called Cost of Transportation. It has to do with price of petrol. And it has to do with How Much a poor farmer needs in return so she can cook a pot of soup and eat too. A farmer will not sell his/her produce for 10 naira when 10 naira can not buy kerosene to cook her soup.

The prices of goods was stable, then one certain Cow herder increased price of petrol, gamble with fx differentials, fleece people accounts and the panic created made the billionaires to move their funds, changed them to dollars and launder them to safe heavens. NoW what we have here is a mess.

it's not rocket science for malaria drug that use to be N550 - N750 now sell for N2500 - N3000.and all other drugs. the bad side is that there are people who live on drugs daily with one manageable condition to the other they are really suffering. anytime I go to hospital people beg me money for drugs. it's a serious situation. it all point to the dollars.

people who are into trade and transport are forced to increase their price to meet up with reality. its only salary and service man earners that are feeling the hit.

the current APC supporters are people who still live and eat in their fathers house. many of them still don't know the reality on ground.
