Concerned groups and individuals across the country have continued to ask; why should the Federal Government continue the unhealthy act of shielding some corrupt public officers in different quarters of government? When Buhari administration came on board, they listed “War against corruption” as their major task, but what are we seeing today? Some corrupt public officers are shielded and protected even after committing very grievous criminal offences, just because they belong to a particular political party or cabal. This is a shame to the Federal Government of Nigeria. A live example is the inability of the FG and FMOH (Federal Ministry of Health) to put to an end a clear and established corrupt practice currently playing out in FMC Owerri.
Dr. Angela Uwakwem (The embattled Medical Director of FMC Owerri) has consistently violated the civil service rule in a manner that is yet to be seen elsewhere in any other part of the country. She has been allowed to move about and parade herself as a saint after all the weighty corrupt practices and impunity she has engaged in, even after being arrainged by the EFCC on an 18-count criminal charge bothering on theft and fraudulent activities among others charges (The suit no is HOW/1C/EFCC/2016)

For reasons yet unknown, The Minister of State for Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, has continued to protect Dr. Angela and give her support in the face of all the crimes and atrocities she has committed. Recall that it was the said Minister that gave Dr. Angela Uwakwem an illegal resumption letter to resume duty (which he later denied) which was against the Civil Service Rule 030406 & 030409 which states that; any public/civil servant that has been arraigned in any court of law must vacate office until cleared of all charges, the latter rule require her to inform her employers who, in this case is the Ministry of Health, that she has been charged to court, which she did not do. That ill action by The Minister of State for Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, triggered the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) to stage a huge protest in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, days after and consequently leading The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) to issued a 21-day ultimatum to the federal government within which to resolve the industrial crisis rocking the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri.

But instead of the FMOH to do the needful with regards to Dr. Angela Uwakwem’s case, they turned around to victimize the whistle-blowers of the alleged corrupt practices of Dr. Angela Uwakem by denying them their salaries. The Federal Executive Council had passed into law a policy that whistle-blowers must be protected, yet FMOH and Dr. Osagie Ehanire contravened that law, and for that and other related actions, the NLC demanded his immediate resignation.

Dr Angela Uwakwem’s high-handedness and manner with which she victimizes her staff knows no bounds; immediately after she was forcefully reinstated with the help of Imo State Police, she started issuing queries to the striking workers that were on a legal Union strike protesting against her forceful re-instatement, that had about 7 infants killed by police teargas in the ICU unit of FMC Owerri. That and details of her plan to sack some 27 Resident Doctors after her illegal reinstatement among many other evil plans which includes illegal extension of her tenure and details of some of her fraudulent activities, and details of her current court case with the EFCC can be seen in the link below.

What else can surprise me in this country? A country where only the roadside thief and poor victims of circumstance are hit with sledge hammer while the big wigs in government engage in all round corruption spree without being checked or brought to book. Who are we deceiving? Nigeria can never get it right until these groups of criminals supposedly belonging to an evil cabal are all checked, tried and sentenced accordingly, then can sanity be restored in this country. Be it as it may, some groups and individuals have vowed to do whatever they can to see that the needful is done in this country without favour, sentiments or prejudice. God bless Nigeria.
