this is not another "Bashing nollywood" thread but its about their movie covers.
it seems people never appreciate the efforts being made in their own backyard but anything by a foreigner is glorified.
undecided
at least learn to support and know they are trying with the little resources that they have and most of it which comes out of the producer's pockets.
a corrupt country like nigeria with a pretty bad economy still has nollywood as its 3rd largest industry.
im happy and PROUD of them!!
if Nigeria had been a country like the US they would have no excuse to make "crappy movies" but remember Nigeria is nowhere near the US in anything, so for them to be able to churn out Nollywood and make it the 3rd largest is wonderful.
so lets stop the bashing and at least respect, especially from the country these movies are coming from.

Re: Nollywood Movie Covers by Divihack: 6:46pm On Dec 07, 2009
Nollywood sucks from cover to the content.its like the movies are for idiots and jobless house wives
Re: Nollywood Movie Covers by Divihack: 6:54pm On Dec 07, 2009
We always make a case about nollywood been the 3rd in the world.
Firstly-how many countries have the population of 140million or above(only cool
secondly-the 3rd in the world is the number of films not quality and its well known that quality is better than quantity
Re: Nollywood Movie Covers by afrikaam(m): 7:00pm On Dec 07, 2009
very few things work in Africa. With all of the obstacles Nollywood faces, it still manages to create video content specialised to african content. With everything, time improves. Most of the movies which come out of Hollywood are crap. And they have all the money in the world and 100+ years of experience.

Have faith.

Re: Nollywood Movie Covers by proproman(m): 9:00am On Dec 08, 2009
thank God someone started this thread. most (not all) nollywood movies suck! with a very large capital s. infact, from the name to their products, it's all big bull! am hardly surprised at the lack of creativity. they couldn't think of a better for themselves. the covers? God help nigerians. These guys constantly assault our eyes with posters that would better be used in infuriating mad people. Some times, i just feel like ripping em of the wall and washing the defiled wall with detergent to purify it. Really horrible, i tell you. The last three you posted were ok, however . Ije was especially creative.
Re: Nollywood Movie Covers by Ikengawo: 9:54am On Dec 08, 2009
you ppl are stupid. quit trying to think imitating white ppl is intelligence

nigerians buy movies based on who's in them.
to sell movies a good idea would be to put actors on the cover so that ppl will buy the movie cause that's what they're looking for.

the ppl making these things have more sense then you.
Re: Nollywood Movie Covers by steeze(m): 11:30am On Dec 08, 2009
I think guilty pleasures is really really good. I look at the movie cover and i just want to buy it and find out what it's about. That's what a movie cover is supposed to do to you: To pique your curiousity. The rest pale into insignificance. Emem Isong rocks!!

It's something i'd always known, but this thread made me to really notice the fact that a lot our movie covers are an eyesore

Re: Nollywood Movie Covers by THEAMAKA1: 11:56am On Dec 08, 2009
hahaha weird things that go though my head at midnight, watching TV, drinking hot chocolate, and noticing a nollywood movie sitting on my coffee table.  cool
lol

anyway
but people stop bashing nollywood. they have some really good movies even though 70% of them are crap.
but i am starting to switch over to some more yoruba movies with subtitles (although its hard to follow along reading while action is going on) but yeah.
watched half of a movie already.
but people, nollywood isnt all bad so we should still be giving it support.
like i said, nollywood comes from a country like NIGERIA and they are still able to pull it off. 3rd largest! and with no help from anywhere else but the producer's own pocket.
and piracy is also another reason why nollywood hasnt reached to the level it should be at by now.
but they can AT LEAST come up with better storylines, and make the covers to their movies more appealing.

well they can post the people in the movies on the cover.
the last 3 movie covers i posted showed the people in them just fine.
Re: Nollywood Movie Covers by chiogo(f): 5:20pm On Dec 08, 2009
Oh pls, don't they scream out the names of the actors in the previews? grin

They can just write the names of the actors/actresses, we can read. They just put overblown pics that aren't even attractive in the eyes. WTF? tongue

Amaka, i feel that the poster for Ije is a step in the right direction. what are your thoughts?
Re: Nollywood Movie Covers by Nobody: 9:52pm On Dec 08, 2009
Nice cover for Ije. One thing though: Genevieve and Omotola supposedly languishing in jail with well manicured nails .
Another problem with nollywood paying attention to minute details.

For the The Girls Cot cover, methinks that the pink graphics looks cool, the actresses pic spoiled the concept cos their awkward poses look trashy.

Thumbs up for the Guilty Pleasures cover. Though i seldom watch Nollywood movies, im tempted to watch it simply because its cover is international standard. Its got the contemporary Bollywood-esque (two studs  hoping to win one woman's heart) look to it.

This coming from someone that just advised Nollywood to take a leaf outta Hollywood? Why should Nollywood copy Hollywood, and who told you Nigeria is nowhere near the US in anything? You're such an idiot for that statement. Nigeria does NOT need to be like the US, and we will do stuff the way we like you obese punk!

^^^^
why do you insist on stalking me EVERYWHERE?!?!?!?!
its getting annoying.
do you realize your last 7-8 posts have been dedicated to me?
LISTEN HERE, STOP TRYING TO ARGUE WITH EVERYTHING I SAY.
if you wanna argue, come up with something real to argue about and stop yarning dust from the size of your mouth.
stop looking for my trouble.

taking tips from hollywood does not mean im bashing nollywood.
NOLLYWOOD NEEDS TO TAKE TIPS FROM THEM, OR ARE YOU ARGUING THAT?
they need to look at their movie covers and see how much of a HOT MESS ours are.
dont you get it? stop trying to argue with me and following me all over the forum.
SHEESH, YOU OBSESSED PRICK.

You're such A SlowPoke for that statement. Nigeria does NOT need to be like the US, and we will do stuff the way we like you obese punk!
first of all, nollywood shouldnt copy hollywood in the storylines they do, but in everything else, yes.
they should upgrade those ridiculous movie covers and do something about their quality, YES!!
this has nothing to do with hollywood, this is about IMPROVING NOLLYWOOD, and they need to take pointers from hollywood. its only logical. Nigeria is NOWHERE near hollywod when it comes to movies, and its a well known fact. that does not mean im bashing nollywood, im only suggesting they IMRPOVE. LOOK AT THOSE RIDICULOUS COVERS!!

did i ever say that Nigeria should be like the US? DID I? you OBVIOUSLY do not know how to comprehend if you got that from my statement in which you quote. i still think that nigeria should do things the nigerian way but IMRPROVING quality and picture should not go along with "copying the west" but rather "IMPROVING THEIR OWN FILM INDUSTRY"
its obvious you saw my comment and just wanted to start an argument just to talk more crap, as usual.
im beginning to think that you only get on NL to look for my comments and start dumb arguments that make no sense and relate to nothing in which i have said.
here is a word of advice: STOP SUKING ME!! okay?
you are obsessed, if not, you wouldnt have made your last 7 posts to me.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BACK to the politics/business/money section that you always talk about and claim to love.
since you are always in the celebrities section looking for my posts just to talk more crap.
you have made no sense today and you insist on making yourself look like an arse everywhere you go.
you no get shame? NONSENSE.
