It is no more news that MMM Nigeria has gotten to a point where almost all the beneficiaries and potential beneficiaries no longer believe in the scheme. Despite the negative media backlash of the scheme in 2016, it was still able to thrive until late in the year. This success would have continued until the handlers did something unexpected and unbelievable.

One of the biggest mistakes made by the handlers was to suspend the scheme for about 30 days. In every market, the most delicate part of the consumer which at all times should be managed professionally at the highest level is the consumer behavior. The moment the consumer of your brand loses thrust in your brand, it marks the beginning of the business down fall. At the point where the beneficiaries of the scheme had doubt, handlers of MMM should have continued running the scheme. While we understand that there were a lot of GH orders during the festive period, there were still an ample PH orders that would have at least kept the system running fine. The moment the handlers announced that the platform had been frozen, people who wanted to provide help “RAN“, knowing that if they provide the help, they might not get help in return.

Integrity is key in all business and you will agree with me that people began to doubt MMM when they could not keep to their own promises. The scheme returned earlier than projected but failed to meet its earlier promise of additional 20% interest. This interest was hard to come by because individuals who are meant to keep the community running had already lost interest. Accompanying this was the announcement that 2016 GH orders are suspended and that only 2017 orders will be paid. This again was a failure strategy. The major marketers of the scheme were its participant in 2016 and suspension of over a million Marketers orders simply means that they will spread negative news about the same product they have loved. Calculate the multiplier effect of a million people.

Finally, the handlers of the scheme failed to understand the market they were operating in. Late last year when the scheme announced the unbelievable suspension, it had failed to do a simple market survey analysis to check the strength of competitors. At that point, competitors were coming strong with a more viable survival model aimed at knocking off MMM from the number one Ponzi scheme hierarchy. This was made easy by the amateurs handling the scheme and before the opening in January 2017,their worst nightmare was already in front of them, FAILURE it is called
