Recall that a tweet first caught Nigerians attention on Sunday 19th February 2017 which was about a certain pack of Imported Garri with the source given as India, which was found on the shelve of a Nigerian supermarket. Now, the tweet have reached the stables of Nigeria Health Minister, Prof. Isaac Adewole.

According to Prof. Isaac Adewole, NAFDAC have jumped into investigations and proper actions will be taken on this matter.

"We knew we had work to do, and Monday 20th we did. Our actions and findings are outlined below: (Updates via @NafdacNigeria)"

1. NAFDAC Officers visited the Supermarket in Ikoyi today
2. 26 packets of 500mg each of the products were seized for analysis
3. The product has no NAFDAC number
4. The product is said to be from Ghana but packaged in UK
5. The Management of the Supermarket have been invited for further discussion in our Lagos office
Investigation continues.

Good good

That Ikoyi supermarket should be searched again for any other substandard products. If it can house unauthorized and unacceptable garri, then there may be other fake goods

In short, lock the place up until the search is complete

It's high time our NAFDAC and SON, become more proactive, rather than reactive.

Even if it's for consumption by Indians, it doesn't mean food items being imported into the country shouldn't be vetted.
Afterall even to enter Canada from UK, a basic fruit like apple is seized - that's from one developed nation to another, not to mention whole food items like these from India.

I know the TRS brand in the UK. The question here is will the government ban it if they find no problem after analysing the product? I know they have mentioned that it has no NAFDAC number, will they also ask that the locally produced garri be NAFDAC certified or is the NAFDAC certification only for imported products?

Is a thing of choice,if the imported gari is eventually registered and certified safe(as if our local gari is) then it should be free to be put on the shelf, maybe their own gari will be sweeter

What!

Imported garri?

Is this tenure normal?

I wish it had a NAFDAC number, so that we can just close NAFDAC

We are importing Garri?
Ahah Garri?
This nation is dead.
There is no good in importation.
You strengthen you economy through exportation.
Where our stupid govt and importers got it wrong is that, the don't knw that there is more profit in exporting than importing.
A friend of mine living in Tessense USA was telling me dis A.M that a mango cost $1.68 in USA and its not that ripe.
Mango that rust here and goat will even walk on in Nigeria. Just imagine us preserving mango and exporting it to USA. But our rulers will rather destroying indigenous industry just to promote there importation business.
For How Long Will We Keep Importing What We Have And Exporting What We Don't Have?

NAFDAC should also address the issue of drugs in the market as i have observed some new products which seem relatively cheaper than the known names that are now becoming expensive.

Does that exempt the product from being duly registered.

Pile on the poor guys...They will rather kill the poor supermarket owner... Nobody wants to ask the ogas at the custom some basic questions.. How did this very product enter into the country in-spite of well known government stated policies against that Is the blame not with the customs service? Who allowed the goods to come in? Where duties paid for that? If the goods were not imported in here, will the supermarket have seen it to buy The people to be harangued are the custom service and not the supermarket
