IS SMARTPHONE MAKING US SMART?

A Smartphone is a mobile phone with an advanced mobile operating system which combines features of personal computer with other features useful for mobile or handheld use (Wikipedia).
Smartphone has become less about voice calls and text messages (majority of youth have phones for this purpose) and more about internet services which opens the world of services never before in handheld device so small.
The 21st century youth is been awakened to a more informed, more mobile and more immense in mobile technology around the world. Statistics has it that a greater percentage of these youth sleep with their mobile phones.
Critics of mobile phone generation are portraying an addiction to Smartphone possess emotional and psychological distress and less social active. Take away the device that has access to friends, family, work, emails and vastness of knowledge and of course there will be some apprehension
The big question..... is Smartphone a risk to youth’s future ?
If you have no access to your phone for a week, how much would your each day of that week be? Is going to be a big issue or none at all?
Smartphone addiction has been recognized as a genuine medical condition bringing with its necessary addiction treatment as worst cases.
Furthermore, this addiction has decimated our person to person interaction. You find young people in public places or social events/gatherings; they would prefer to have their smart phones as their companion than start up a conversation with a stranger. The effect of this in this present generation cannot be over emphasized.
Finally, our reading culture is dying as it has been taken over by smartphones addiction. Young people, in their larger number, spend hours on social media chatting, posting pictures, or gaming etc, than reading an article, a book ( pdf format) or the dailies on that same phone. I fear of what becomes of our generation a nearest decade.

Please your opinion is highly welcome to keep the conversation on
