AN OPEN LETTER TO THE PRESIDENCY AND THE DIRECTOR GENERAL OF NYSC

Sad to say that many undergraduate youth does not know what await them during their NYSC period.
I wiil like to start from the experience of corpers in camp. The joy in them when they reach camp is incomparable. The urge to wear the kaaki uniform is really uncontrolled.
But in the real sense, whats the essence of camping graduate for military training for 3 weeks. Is it to train dem for war? An average Prospective Corp Member spends nothing less than N30, 000 to prepare for the camping exercise. The extortion in the camp is over-whelming. The food served in camp kitchen is called Under-Nutrition.

The money FG spends on NYSC orientation camp in each year is enough to train Nigerian graduates on useful entrepreneurial skills acquisition that will equip graduates to become self employed, and further create more job opportunities for them. What if they are given a sum of money after graduation?
Now, my main concern is that; does NYSC have any positive impact on youth's career? Imagine a young man who made it through 4 years of learning e.g Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry etc. After camping exercise, such person is given letter to teach in a village for one year. One year of no access to social amenity, no information provided on the career opportunity for him/her for the future.
I will rather suggest that graduate youth should be posted to firms where they can practice their course of study. In this way, practical application of what graduate learned in school will be developed and as well improve the economy of the country. You can imagine what experience Graduates include in their resume...Only teaching experience for one year. An engineering graduate for dat matter. If u should be d interviewer/employer in an organisation , what will u tell such one after interview, is it not for you to tell such applicant to write supplication to schools? Dos in government know about this writings, and dat's why u will never see their children in this kinda exercise.
Do you know that government had being training youth on how to manage poverty? Just imagine, corpers are given #19,800...minimum wage. And of course after some few month, dey will manage it well with no complain whatsoever.
The whole program needs re-structuring. The truth is we need a better intelligent innovation for a better future for youth.

Government should please do something towards re-branding of NYSC.
