It’s customary at a funeral to bury the ones you love with some treasured memories.

An elderly relative is sometimes buried with jewellery perhaps, the sad death of a child can often see them be joined in the coffin with a cuddly toy, or maybe it’s a memorable photo of the person in question.

For a cremation, it’s the same routine. A teary goodbye, a final prayer and then the curtains shut and the coffin slides away. With a puff of smoke, they’re gone.

The friends and family of this man gave him something a little ‘stronger’ to go off with.


Although it is not necessarily clear what happened to the man in question, relatives can be seen placing a joint in his mouth and filming his last few moments before being sent off to the great gig in the sky.

It is clearly a moment to remember, captured on a mobile phone and then furthered with others also doing the same.

Strangely enough, this isn’t the first time someone has done this. At the recent funeral of this Puerto Rican man, he was propped up with a spliff.


Fernando de Jesus Diaz Beato was repeatedly shot a year ago, aged just 26. He was laid to rest ‘just as he was in life’.

The family decided against a coffin for the funeral and went instead for a relaxed pose and a cigarette between his fingers.
