How Obsolete Medical Practices Contribute To Infidelity In Nigeria by Yankee101: 8:13pm On Mar 26, 2017
Two things

1. Episiotomy _

Incisions/cutting/tearing during childbirth
I understand one of the basic things they do during child birth is to cut women at the private part in order to 'help' the child come out. This is not only barbaric but archaic. (more appropriate word is tearing, cos na with vex some nurses dey do am)

2. Female circumcision.

They cut these women up so bad that it heals poorly or they don't stitch it at all. It leaves the woman flappy and wide open. The man goes out to seek younger women who have not gone thru the same. The more these practices exist the more younger the girls these men tend to seek out. Case in point? Northern Nigeria

Also a female can't feel the full sensations of love making once the clit.. is chopped off in a circumcision.

A typical man reacts (meaning comes faster, gets harder faster, thinks the sex was great, feels accomplished etc) when he gets a response from the lady in bed. The clit..oris is about the most sensitive part of a female. A mere soft brush, touch, kiss or gentle action reverberates thru the entire lady's body. The most efficient lover men first satisfy their women and make her come b4 they even bring out the joysticks from their trousers (lesson for a different time and place).

So imagine an average married naija woman that was circumcised as a child and given a torn private part during child birth.

I won't say much. I'll leave the possible results to your imagination.
Let's enact laws that curb these practices. Of course except in life threatening situations, an episiotomy can be avoided.

When I hear ladies being asked to come with razor blades during antenatal visits, in preparation for labour proper, it's crazy. Tearing in naija is a rule as opposed to an exception.

Now on to science

Tearing can be reduced via:

1. Good nutrition
2. Kegel exercises
3. Labour in water
6. Positions (on all four, laying on the side etc)
7. Breathing rather than pushing baby out
8. Choosing ur carer and doctor (if them like to cut for that place no go there)
9. Use warm compresses
10. Perineal massages

An episiotomy is a surgical cut made to the skin and muscle of the perineal area, to enlarge the vaginal opening. Episiotomies were first employed when forceps came into vogue in the late 1700s and were believed to lessen the damage to both mother and baby, such as tearing, brain damage to babies, pelvic floor tearing etc.

Evidence now shows that episiotomies do not protect the perineum during birth and in fact increase the chance of a third or fourth degree tear. Once the cut is done the baby’s head emerging causes the cut to tear deeper into the muscle. Tears will heal much better than episiotomies as well. The scar tissue from an episiotomy can be weaker but will not restrict the perineum’s ability to stretch in future births. A previous episiotomy is not an automatic reason for an elective c-section. - See more at: https://www.bellybelly.com.au/birth/tearing-during-birth/

An episiotomy may be required if your doctor performs an assisted birth (forceps for example). A great way to avoid an assisted birth is to avoid an induction of labour (with medication, like Syntocinon or Pitocin, which is artificial oxytocin) and epidurals, both which often go hand in hand. This is why the phrase “the cascade of interventions” exists, because once you start one intervention (usually the induction), you almost always need another. - See more at: https://www.bellybelly.com.au/birth/tearing-during-birth/
