i have been checking nairaland car section and i have never seen any dealer advertising cars like nissan gtr for sell.
i see gwagons, Lamborghini s, ferrari and other super cars.
i will like to know why this one is never advertised.
is it that the parts are too expensive or cant be bought here?
will like honest answers from car dealers as i plan to get me one if i find a good deal

The only answer to your question is out of 100% Nigerians, only 5% are car enthusiasts and only about 1.5% reside in Nigerian (Automotive engineering "Nurey et al 2010")

Most cars you see like the mustang, camaro, chargers, challengers are only bought by the owners to show off, some don't even know the hp the car is churning out.

Now to answer your question, the problem is poverty and dearth of information, to get those cars are expensive imagine a 2001 Ford Mustang tokunbo going for 3.2m when I can get a 2010 camry or a 2012 Kia optima for that price. Getting the parts of that car isn't easy too as you have to search online and import which isn't a walk through.

Those cars are available if you head to the right car stand but the price will be unbelievable. I recently did a research in US export of salvaged cars, it was for a 2008 Volvo S40 turbo charged I noticed with $5500 I could get two accident cars bring it in with clearing and match them together.

I got the inspiration from a estate neighbor who did same for a 2006 pathfinder in 2008 and he still owns the car till date.
You can go that route too with a Nissan or the Infiniti M35x

I know there are expensive, but someone that can afford a gwagon or bentley for example should be able to afford these cars too. So i think they should be a bigger reason other than poverty

Did you read my write up at all? How can a non car enthusiast pick a 1969 Chevrolet camaro SS over a junk 2012 camaro.

There are no car enthusiasts in Nigeria since our University professors can't even manufacture a tight on bolt.

Those who can afford those cars are showoff, they just want people to know they have money and mouth, that's all, if you buying a car for show off, the Nissan isn't a contender, it's way below, under the food chain.

This cars need a specialist to keep it running in Nigeria even worse if you bought a pimped version of the Nissan with custom engine and turbo kits.

The roads available to drive this babies are becoming limited in Nigeria, during raining season in Lagos most of those roads are a no go area for those cars, don't say Abuja because I can't relocate just because I want to drive a certain car.

Op the car is available in Lagos here at least I see it most times when I intend to visit lekki area for a while. If you fancy her and it's within your budget abeg buy it and make a difference on our roads

YOU got very valid points. The major reason for buying these kind of cars is just show off. I am guilty of that too. From the points u gave, i dont think its worth it. Thanks for sharing your views

There is no crime in buying a car for showoff as long as you can maintain it. The Nissan shouldn't break a bank on maintenance issues.

Yeah but someone here just said that there are some maintainance that require u shipping the car back to their manufacturers. That dosnt sound good

you nailed it

am not a nigerian or never been in nigeria nissan gtr is for racers real drifters

thats the reason we dont see cars like ariel atom in africa becoz with african mentality people will think its a buggy car put for speed and fun you can enjoy the car on track and on the road

like you said most africans buy as show off

For a Nissan GTR Kai even the Rolls-Royce phantom has technicians in Nigeria that can fix it with tons of mechanical and electrical brouhaha.

I am damn certain the 2007 Nissan GTR doesn't have electric connection compared to a 2005 VW phaeton which is available in naija. If you like it just buy the only issue is maintenance culture because the only hard part to get would be gear, engine might just be expensive.

Besides there are only two things that destroy engine and gear
1. Bad maintenance culture
2. If you intend to ram into a Dodge ram @ 200km/h grin
I know you don't intend to do any of the two

In my opinion the reason that you don't see as such is due to the mentality of Nigerians and prestige.

If you slap a Ferrari, Lamborghini badge on that car then I think Nigerians will buy it. As long as it's just an "ordinary" Nissan then there's no prestige.

Same thing happens here too. Many people here, I read, would rather go for BMW/Mercedes/Ferrari/Lamborghini at that price range.

I took this video of one when I went to ride the snake a few weeks back.

McLaren, the first ever McLaren cars are extremely expensive around 1.2million pounds sterling it even has gold as part of its body composition, extremely loud deafening engine but a respected car in automotive world.

I doubt you will see those. The only cars you will see often in naija are those less than $500,000 anything higher becomes less to find and extremely complicated.

Bro.... not a car guy... but from your write up I don't think you really know much about the GT-R.... like someone said... most would see it as a just another Nissan... but from what I know... it is no ordinary Nissan and no ordinary car. If you can afford to buy one...then if you misuse it and damage the gearbox you should be able to afford to buy another gearbox instead of trying to replace it with one from another type of car...and that goes with any luxury vehicle. If you want to buy it to show off.... this is not a good car to do so in Nigeria.... you can grab more attention with less expensive cars like some BMWs and Benz. Nissan GT-R is a speed demon period... that is faster than any car in its class and many above its class. If you're into serious drag racing.... get it. If you're into speed...just driving real fast... wait for proper expressways.

Sorry for speaking on such an old thread but as most of you stated earlier, there are very little car guys in Nigeria. Most sports car owners buy them to show off and buy the cars they want off the dealers. A true car guy would like cars like the Mazda RX-7, Honda S2000 and the Nissan R32 or R34 GT-R. But if someone still wanted to show off their cars, it would make sense to buy an R35 GT-R. It is a nice looking car and easily competes with other super cars around its price range. So the main reason that dealers dont have it is because there isnt demand for those cars. Someone also said earlier in the thread about its parts being hard to get, for example the gearbox. I believe if the gearbox of a mclaren also had a problem the same would be done about it. So it is not maintenance problems that keeps cars like that out of the hands of dealers. It is because most of the people who have money to buy the cars don't want it and it would be pointless for dealers to have something like that in their hands that no one would end up buying.
