Good quality seeds are basin, port and calabar in that order. They are costly now. Basin will become cheaper between month end and mid next month.Note: itis far far better to buy costly ugu seeds than bad seeds.

Thanks alot for the advice. My concern has always been; how to identify these seeds, I only trust the buyer when he/she says its a good seed etc. Most times, its not always so. Are there ways to identify them?

Generally basin and port have smaller seeds than Calabar and the two are almost of same quality. However some seed sellers select tiny Calabar seeds to mix with basin. The good bet is to buy from trusted seed sellers. A better way to differentiate amongst them is that the pod of basin are smaller and more round compared to calabar port that are bigger and more conical in shape.

Leaf miners at work grin. Those miners are so troublesome grin. The real danger leaf miners pose to your tomato plants is the introduction of bacteria or fungi through their cuts, causing the leaves to turn yellow.

What I will do?
Check your plants regularly and cut of affected leaves at the very sight of their activies.

Spray my tomato plants with neem oil (I said neem oil). I try as much as possible to avoid the spray of chemicals.

Lastly, I also make sure I bombard my soil with enough compost, so as to increase organic activities of my soil. This in itself helps encourage beneficiary insects to help keep things in control.

I have never used it personally, but read a couple of research on its usage to control pests and diseases. Do take precautions in its application like every other control methods used.

Did you get any Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis) product?
jidestroud:
Day 50 (Corn update - Corn earworm prevention)

Today makes it 44days after planting. My Corn have started to develop ears, so it's time to take necessary precautions against the every Corn farmer's nightmares; Corn earworms.

I checked out about 7 agricultural outlets to get any Bt products (Bacillus thuringiensis), to my greatest surprise I couldn't. They kept referring and referring. Sad morning it turned out to be.

Improvisation;
I will be using just vegetable oil instead.

Goodness, at least I got a pressure spray 2litre bottle.

Additional garden cost:
2litre pressure spray bottle = N1500

@petyr1 , it depends on the quantity of ugu seeds you are buying. If it is a handy quantity of at most one semolina bag which is like 1500 seeds, you will pay around #1000 to #1,500. But nevertheless this one that will come in this weekend is majorly owned by me so I am not sharing transport cost with other mini buyers. The variety is what is more important to me right now.

@Adlac, I wish I could sell ugu in paint buckets but I may end up looking as if I cheated the buyer.

For me, as a person that understand what investment of hard earned money is, i will advise you do not buy your seeds in measurement buckets online except you are physically where the pods will be broken and measured.

I have once been a victim of this on this forum ( check my posts for the complaints) and I will not want to do this to others.

It is either the measurements are not complete or only big ugu seeds are selected to fill up the bucket, etc

So it's an advise to all.

I need a thorough research before Investing in it,
