The first and biggest suspect is the car dealer that sold the car to your friend

Get the seller arrested first if your friend bought it from an individual.

The seller may be a fraudster

Concentrate on finding the car.

The reason for being on the road at that ungodly hour is total bullsh!t

Folks who just bought a car rarely drive it at night not to talk of 2am and a high demand car at that. This is a classic example of "Do not put the Lord your God to test".

Apparently the owner didn't attach much value to the car.

Some people and sense are enemies. They just don't want to have some!!! How can you say arrest the seller when you clearly read that the car was snatched at 2AM while being driven by people at a roadblock!!! A dealer will only repossess the car where it is parked using a spare key; they would seldom mount roadblocks to do this!
Report the car stolen and keep your fingers crossed

Exactly. The seller may have information on their movement and chose the option far less suspicious

I stay in Kubwa, that's a VERY VERY HOT zone. Its got a back alley bypass to Kaduna and Kano. I've heard rumours and stories of thieves snatching properties, take that road to Kaduna and other Northern states then dispose off the items.

Hot zone compared to d Abuja Kaduna Expressway?? It's a sure thing almost all cars snatched eventually end up in Kano/Kaduna.. Most of the robberies/car snatching/kidnapping dat happens around here have been on d Abuja Kaduna Expressway axis. I've hibernate between Kubwa/Suleja/bwari...

Please investigate the seller and also any of your friend that know your last movement before the incident.

I agree that some sellers do things like this, but let's take cognizant of the fact that the car was snatched on an expressway at 2:00 AM. Whether a seller has the tendency to do such a bad thing or not, moving on an expressway at 2:00 AM has its own risk. May God just keep us from evil.

Dutse/Kubwa is a three lane expressway with two lanes service lane, how dem collect the ride and that place no be where thieves dey wait for people.

If the car get insurance, make you friend go report for police station and inform the insurance company
Thieves do that there, even during the day, though not frequently. Moreover, this happened 2:00 AM. The driver met a checkpoint, thinking that it was a police checkpoint, he didn't know that they were robbers.

What was the driver doing patroling at 2 AM with an endangered vehicle marquee...

Don't mind the guy, by engraving, he means the practice that our fore fathers used to do by etching the registration number or chassis number of the car on the windows and the wind shield. This makes it very difficult to sell the car if you need to. Better to install a car tracker. Besides, etching does not necessarily prevent your car from being robbed.

Tell your friend to stop the search! Pay police to arrest the dealer, he kept the spare key. The car will be returned!

So the dealer knew he would be passing that junction at exactly 2am and alone on the said day abi?

Your reasoning is one of the things we need to purge from the Nigerian Police mentality.

If the dealer wants to steal with the extra key, won't he simply go to where the car was parked instead of mounting a road block?

[s]second this motion. Arrest the sellers bro[/s]

Edited: at this point, I absolve the sellers of any blame cos the driver of that must have been in Nigeria, heard and read about the incessant cases of car jacking especially Toyota corolla which is a red hot target for thieves. Yet, a car purchased barely a week is being driven at 2AM on a desolate high way angry
don't mind all these careless people, some can dole out 1.5 million to buy car, bt to buy insurance Na story, put tracker Na wahala.
