The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved additional N5 billion for the construction of the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Transportation Minister Mr. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi stated this while briefing State House correspondents on the outcome of the FEC meeting.

The minister explained that the change in the cost of the construction of the anti-graft agency's headquarters was due to the foreign exchange fluctuation, saying "This is N5 billion."

The contract for the construction of the EFCC Headquarters Complex, situated along the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport Road in Abuja, was awarded to Julius Berger Nigeria Plc on November 27, 2010 for N18.86 billion.

The project was initially expected to be completed within three years.

Amaechi also disclosed that the council equally approved the lease of what it called "fast-going vessels" for the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

The minister, who put the cost for the vessels' lease at N3.8 billion, noted that it was for the next one year.

According to Amaechi, this is aimed at enabling the NIMASA to perform its responsibility on the high sea.

The minister, however, did not disclose the number and the supplier of the vessels to be leased.

24 billion will buy 4000 Tractors for Nigerian farmers with combined capacity to till 20,000 hectares of land daily or 3 million hectares yearly.

Each hectare producing food products of about 500,000 Naira average per planting season or 1 million Naira per year.


3 million hectares at 1 million Naira yearly equals 3 Trillion Naira worth of food products produced if common sense existed amongst those boneheads in government. No they rather spend the money on a building for that would house barely 500 workers for an agency that already operates in an existing headquarters. It's a pity.

What do you expect when you have a vision-less, inept & clueless leaders at the helm of affairs, 24 Billion Naira to build EFCC head quarters, why not convert some of the mansion confiscated by EFCC from our politicians and use it instead of pouring 24 Billion Naira to an elephant project, l want to see them implementing programs to reduce poverty, infant mortality, reduce unemployment, build world class hospitals & health centers across the geo-political region, reduce insecurity, improve, upgrade & provide infrastructures but they are busy chasing shadows , useless government

No regime can beat Jonathan when it comes to corruption. The EFCC headquarters contract was awarded in 2010 by GEJ for a sum of N18.8billion and should have been completed since 2013. N18.8billion for the construction of office complex just for an agency is nothing but criminal.

Worst part and for reasons that we don't know, the project was not completed and the Buhari government just increased the contact sum by N5billion due to foreign exchange fluctuation. By all standards, the project is criminally overpriced.
