Nonsense news without source. Must be the handiwork of brown roof dwellers to create tension between Igbos and other ethnic groups.

My people would call such an attempt by the EzeIgbo as an "Usongeyin" (insult). I highly doubt if a Calabar man would seek to be crowned an "Obong" in Ibo land, without raising the ire of the citizens. Geez, I mean, for what reason is all this for, except to start some controversy? Be a ruler in your region.

I'm an Igbo man, versed in Igbo culture. If the Calabar community in Onitsha decided to elect an 'Obong of Onitsha', no Igbo man would give a Rats-a$$.

Basically,I do not know why the Igbos are always trying to show themselve up, they are very strict about strangers in their community, they do not easily accept other tribes as a matter of fact. they will hate you  for not being igbo

Can you imagine? Yorubas even tried to create an OBA OF CALABAR, not even the OBA OF YORUBAS IN CALABAR.
This is the height of impunity

Afenifere chieftain, Senator Femi Okurounmu, says if the Igbo want the Eze Ndigbo title to be recognised in Yoruba land, they must also recognise the Oba title in the South-East.

Okurounmu said this during an interview with our correspondent on Thursday while reacting to the ban on the Eze Ndigbo title by the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi.

The Akure monarch ordered the title to be reviewed and replaced with a non-controversial honorary one.

This is one of the conditions given by the monarch to end the crisis between him and the leader of the Igbo community in the town, Mr. Gregory Iloehike.

Subsequently, there have been calls by several Yoruba groups for the total ban of the Eze Ndigbo title in the entire South-West.

However, Okurounmu said the Yoruba would have no problem with the Igbo title as long as Yoruba titles were recognised in the South-East.

He said, "In all things, there must be reciprocity. If the Yoruba are allowed to have obas in Igbo land, then it will be in order for the Igbo to have ezes in Yoruba land. On the other hand, if Yoruba communities in Igbo land cannot have obas, then it will not be fair for the Igbo in Yoruba land to have ezes."

In a separate statement, the Afenifere Renewal Group commended the Deji of Akure for banning the title of 'Eze Ndi Igbo' in Akure.

Commending the Akure monarch for his decision on Thursday, the ARG described him as a noble and wise king.

The ARG, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Kunle Famoriyo, said, "We want to say that this act will go down in the history of the Yoruba nation and among other nationalities as noble and needful.

"Contrary to what many, particularly the mischief makers, have been saying, this move has the potential to strengthen inter-ethnic relationship as it eliminates the friction points amongst nationalities, be it in Yoruba land or elsewhere.

"There is no gainsaying that the structure of the Eze Ndigbo outside Igbo land is deployed towards an expansionist end, with possible occupational intent.

"It is our conviction that the Igbo community in Yoruba land does not need to have a king, since by the Yoruba custom, two kings cannot coexist in a domain."

The ARG said the Yoruba people were the most tolerant in Nigeria which was often taken for granted by other tribes.

The group encouraged Igbo trade associations and development unions to continue to carry out their activities.

It, however, urged all monarchs and governors in the South-West not to recognise the Ndigbo title as it was at variance with Yoruba customs.

"We therefore want to reiterate our proposition to the heads of executive governments in Yoruba land and other traditional rulers that the title of Eze Ndigbo, or any other monarchical title that is alien to Yoruba customs, be scrapped in all South-West states," the statement added.

This is sad. The ibos in that region have a very imperialisic mentality as is evident in the whole biafra struggle. i have heard about this for some time now as the ibos in that area have tried to move into calabar, the homeland of th efiks and claim it as thers. this could get ugly
I am sure you didn't read this part...
He warned that the Efik people would not accept the creation of a monarchy in Calabar or any part of the state by the Igbo or any guest community.

He said a similar attempt to create an ‘Oba of Calabar’ by the Yoruba people failed because the Efik fiercely resisted it.

If you had read it, you would have had your head in the right position...

Both the Obong and the kingmakers said they had to react because Ezenwenyi had already written a letter to Governor Donald Duke, seeking government recognition as the Eze Ndigbo the state.

Henshaw said such a practice would never be accepted and advised Duke to disregard the letter.

The monarch said the only office recognised by his palace is the President-General of Igbo Community in Calabar, being held by Fidelis O. Onyebueke.

He warned that the Efik people would not accept the creation of a monarchy in Calabar or any part of the state by the Igbo or any guest community.

Nah their way since Lugard held them like traumatized children out of their hobbesian cursed lands into the wider world.

Same Lugard they curse but whose colonial borders in the old eastern Nigeria they are now laying claim to.

Chase these heathens back to their hell holes since they will never relent nor repent from coveting other people's lands

Barring a few exceptions...the poor knowledge of 'eastern' nigeria (and Nigeria in general) by most Westerners has always been embarrassing.

Who are Ibos? Who are Efiks/Ibibios? Are they the same or what? Can a Nigerian be asking the difference between an Obong and Eze-Ndigbo?

For the purpose of information...
The Eastern part of Nigeria has 9 states... abia, akwa ibom, anambra, bayelsa, cross river, ebonyi, enugu, imo, rivers.

[s]5 of these are Igbo speaking while the rest are not. In fact the rest make up a core of the current south-south region (with delta and edo as the other south -south states).
Unity in the former eastern region was/is not the kind of xenophobic type that was achieved in the west. It was/is based on principles of 'fairness'.
The first Biafra struggle was won and lost due to a 'perceived breach' or 'breach' of this principle.

Efiks/Ibibios occupy most of Akwa Ibom and Cross River. They neither understand nor speak Ibo. Classifying them as Igbos is like telling a Katsina man that he is Yoruba. Same goes for a Kalabari, Ogoni, or Bonny man.
These languages are not dialects of Igbo nor are the cultures tributaries of the Igbo culture.

The Obong is the traditional ruler of the Efiks, while an Eze Ndi-Igbo of Xyz is the head of Igbos in Xyz location.

These moves, as reported, are obviously untrue and at best political as Igbos have been in Calabar since the slave trade era without any 'insurrection'.

The current Biafra case is out to show 'Nigeria' that it is a land without a soul. It does not have any link with this case. 'Westerners' and 'Easterners' have diametrically opposed views of unity... one of them should not be made to look superior. [/s]

STOP STOP STOP, there is an Eze-Ndigbo in Lagos State, what has been the impact on the authority of His Royal Highness the Oba of Lagos. Eze Nwachukwu was crowned Eze-Ndigbo of Lagos State by Late Oba Adeyinka Oyekan of Lagos after due election. A little research helps. All people have the right to representation in any community they find themselves.

That's why a post was past that the Yorubas are like the white people, accomodations, economy and everything so respect every single Yoruba people you see because they are always your King

Because there is only one king in Calabar, you idiots are always disrespecting the owners of the land wherever you go.
Can't you people stop being refugees and just go home and live in Biafraland and make yourselves kings there?
Very soon this nonsense will stop,we're getting very close to an explosion.
