PLIGHT OF WIDOWS IN OUR SOCIETY!
What widows are going through is our society today is almost similar to what widows gone through in the past. The only difference is that they are no more subjected to the barbaric, Cruel and inhumane treatment of sleeping in the same room with their husband's corpse or drinking the water used to wash the body of their dead husbands...
Widows nowadays are totally abandoned by their husband relatives and tay are being left to the burden of taking care of the children left by the deceased. Widows are sent packing from their husband house, those that were not sent out are totally abandoned to suffer, wallow in poverty and severe hunger..
Instead of Gathering money to empower the widow so as to take care of her children, people prefer to gather money for burial ceremony (3days,7days et all) which even has no basis in Islaam whatsoever.
Why adding to their sadness when you can't console them?, its not easy to lost someone especially if the husband is a good man.
Most of those who perpetrate this evil are the husband's relative, those known as the OLORI EBI (head of the family), They sometimes accused her of having knowledge of the death of her husband, Iro Lasan! Before you took that decision, why can't you put your daughter in her shoes, would you wish same thing for your daughter? If no, then leave her, stop adding to the burdens of the widow, help alleviate some of their worries, console her, being a widow is not a sin, they're not to be left to suffer after the death of their husband, Whereas if it were to be a man whose wife died, no body will accuse him or treat him anyhow, even if he marries another wife not too long after her demise.
We should know that one day we will definitely leave this world and return to our creator.
Dear brothers and Islaam in Islaam, feeding / taking care of Widow /Orphan is a meritorious act in Islaam.
It was reported in many authentic Ahadeeth of the prophet (salallahu alayhi wasallam) about the virtues of feeding a widow. One of which is ; Muslim (2983) narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “The one who sponsors an orphan, whether it is a relative of his or not, he and I will be like these two in Paradise,” and Maalik pointed with his forefinger and middle finger.
